So, I painstakingly created a folder on PBase for all the images that I have for sale on DPCPrints to increase hits. Then, I also put a link in my copyright signature on PBase and ... looking at the referring pic URLs in the Referral stats ... turns out those generic links generate almost as many unique hits as the ones on the pictures for sale!
Just thought I'd share this easy way of getting some people to visit DPCPrints ...
To do this, click on the "edit your account settings" link on your profile page, then put the link in the "Copyright statement for images" field. Use standard html. For example:
Just substitute your user ID in the URL (or leave mine in, I wouldn't mind ;)

Thanks, Franziska! This is awesome!
The only thing I did differently is put this tag in the details/comments box under each image.. takes longer, yes, but seems more visible.

Karen, I also add an additional tag pointing to just that print to the photos that I have uploaded for sale. That tag is in the comments section.
The additional tag in the copyright field is on all images, even those that aren't uploaded for sale and bring in just as many referrals.
Sorry I didn't make that clearer in my previous message :)

Wow, ambitious goal, good luck, Mavrik :) Will you share your top "referral getters" here?
Btw, my other main source of referrals is a posting on the company bulletin board that I update from time to time. It has also led to many comments from people in the elevator. Now I'm just waiting for the sales to kick in ... :)

Yes, I'll let you guys know what works. I am submitting the link to sites now - basically adding a reciprocal link on my site for each one who links me. We'll see how it goes.

Mavrik, thanks, some great resources. I'll definitely be checking some of them out in more detail some time this week. I guess the good thing about the referral report will be that you can see which ones are the most effective, so you can then focus on keeping those current, etc.

Yes - I wish more were posting the referral link (I get loads of blanks, which I assume are people's favorites list and people typing it in directly).
I signed up for tons of boards, hit tons of add url sites and my first non dpc-er hit was //members.boardhost.com/whatsnew/msg/413.html lol
Strange where these things come from. I can't wait til I get my first SALE now!

Mav, how do you see what hits you get?

Shutterfly, go to "My Account" on DPCPrints and click on the "Referral Reports" link. If there's a link behind one of the entries, then that's the site that the user came to DPCPrints from.

Five hours of work, 65 submissions, 6 new unique people and 8 hits. lol
I'm hoping tomorrow is a bit better?

Actually, there are also some websites that seem to do this while launching your link in a new browser. Not all though. PBase will still give you the link even though it launches a new browser. My company's bulletin board won't give you the referral link (I just know that the number of unique referrals goes up quite a bit on days that I post to the bulletin board).

True for AIM. I have seen Yahoo email links come up as mail.yahoo.com/blahblah?dfjalkdsjf34r

Langdon and I were just talking this morning about how the referral links were really picking up, especially today. What's more exciting is that today, we already have three sales from referrals, from three different referring users.
Why am I telling you this? Referrals really do work! Keep sharing your ideas on how you're promoting your site. With the new site design, I think we really do have a good chance of making a very popular print site. Remember that every person you bring in is a potential buyer, and every buyer is not only a potential repeat buyer but a potential word-of-mouth referral to more buyers.
Sorry for the rally speech, but I was pretty excited to see three referral sales at only 11:30 AM. Please keep up the great work.
Drew
P.S. Shutterfly -- the link in your signature is incorrect. You should not have 'www.' before your username.

Congrats, mavrik, that's great! Can you tell which of your submissions the referrals came from?
