Few, very few, have the ability and opportunity to critically evaluate the artistic calibre of a contemporary. It is also quite conceivable that no links exist to works whose relevance and impact can only be measured from some distance.
My personal theory is that more and more contemporary work is beginning to be defined by its immediate context rather than by an author.

This site has a nice list of photographers to go through...
Not much contemporary there but great for reference, just the same...
My personal farvorite photojournalist is Steve McCurry his site is beyond amazing...with videos and tons of images.

There is not a doubt in my mind that I am the very best photographers in the world. I say this in all seriousness and with true humility. You can take my word for it.

| Best photographers of the world? I honestly think it depends on style as well. I remember watch "Apprentice" and this photographer was like a reward. I saw the outcome, and I was unimpressed. The portraits were horrible. Maybe it's because the models were not interesting either. |
