I got a couple of ideas. BUT, it is raining here today. I will have to wait a bit before I can venture out for my entry. :(

...or there was a behind the scenes discussion to see if there was any prayer of having a simple challenge topic without a long drawn-out interpretation thread where people quote definitions from Klingon dictionaries and Aztec scripts. :-/

You have a Klingon Dictionary? Come on! Get that thing out and quote from it for us!

I suggested we have a challenge topic of "DNMC" - how could you possibly argue that one?

Ha! I was just thinking about what the majority of submissions were going to look like and you nailed it.

I'll be carrying my camera all week for this Challenge submission.

I think I'll have to sit that one out and watch the mayhem.

How's this for an entry?

Crap, now I've posted it here, I can't enter it! :)

since roads are usually paved, and parking lots are usually paved, would it be a stretch to have a picture of a parking lot?
01/12/2006 09:29:44 AM · #33
skiprow, I don't think that will meet the roads challenge because it's not actually a road. It will, however, meet the criteria of the sign challenge. Parking lots are filled with with parking spaces, some of which are handicapped parking spaces, and to park in a handicapped parking space you would need a sticker or sign inside your car or on your license. I think everyone would make that connection with a parking lot rather than seeing it as a road.

I have one I'm thinking about entering, but I don't know if it would meet the challenge. It's a picture of a road that I take to work every day, but I want to enter it in signs. I figure people will make the connection because I will title it "The road where I go to work to get my paycheck `~~*SIGNED*~~`". I just don't want people to get confused and think I submitted it in the wrong challenge.

so what is everyone's view that a road doesnt necessarily have to have cars going over it. A pedestrianised path is still a road????

If you want a real thrill?... take a picture that makes your heart sing but has a personal style edge to it, post it in a challenge with an agony like birthing a child and then have someone whos ability and style you really really admire leave you a comment saying that your photo rocks. THAT will make you smile for days. :)

Always be true to yourself. Thank heavens for these challenges with no DNMC arguments. I'm getting my DPC religion back... :)

My Road is in. It's quite funny, and inspiring at the same time, when you go out to take a specific shot you have in mind, but then find that a shot off the beaten path and on your way home is actually a better entry. This is what happened to me, and I find that very pleasing.

I guess sometimes actual ideas only bring more ideas and so on. That is what I love about photography. You never know what you will come across while weilding your camera around. LOL...

NOW, as for Singled Out, that one I am having a HECK of a time with. LOL...I tried doing some yesterday while at restaurant, but in low light, my camera isn't the best. I got nothing, but "could" have gotten some good ones if only low light wasn't the issue. Then we mosied over to a department store. I waited outside as my husband ran in. Found some really cool shots to take, but NOW it was past dusk, and again, low light was the instigator. I got nothing usable. Either too far away or blurred. UGHH.

Well, tomorrow is when I actually plan to do my shoot of plan. I hope it works, as its getting mightly close to deadline.

Sorry I veered off subject!

My best to everyone. I expect to see some wonderful shots, as always!!

Was out yesterday and got to thinking...

ROAD:
road less traveled, road to hell, road to nowhere

SIGN:
street or business signs of course, but what about sign from god, sign a contract, sign your life away, a sign to stop your evils ways, sign language...

If you think about it, between road and signs this is almost an open study (to a degree). Say (as an example) you could take a picture of an attractive woman in lingerie looking alluringly at the camera, and title it "sure sign of a fun evening ahead". Since I have no chance of taking a shot like that, I'm throwing it out there. :o) A shot like that would probably get an equal number of 1's and 10's, assuming it was a well taken photo. That's just one of about 1,000,000 examples I could think of to twist either of these challenges around. With that in mind, these should be fun to enter AND fun to score!

Oh my god Becky!! Do avenues count?? What about Streets? There's this really cool boulevard downtown, and I thought about shooting it, but didn't know if it boulevards would be voted down cause they aren't really 'Roads'. Oh NO...what to do now..my idea's shot. *cries*
Becky, would a path work? But it's not really a road, but if a dirt road is a road, then a path should be a road.
In the end, I think I'll just enter a photo of a tombstone and title it 'Road to Heaven' and people will just love it. Yeah, that's it.
*rolls eyes*
Just some humor here people, don't get all excited.

ROFLMAO - that was great !!!

The word 'road' or the equivalent in other languages already existed when only horseriders and Roman legionaires walked on them....
