...you've edited slightly in PS elements but the EXIF is still readable in 'Picture Information Extractor' - identical EXIF 'cept it has one extra line..."software: adobe photoshop elements"

All i did was tweak levels and sharpen, but accidentally pressed ctrl+S rather than Ctrl+Shift+S

Nope, sorry. :(

Once it says that, we have no way of knowing what you did.

Always work on a copy of the original. Don't use the "Save" option, rather use the "Save As" command after editing.

I know, i'm kicking myself now. Just sometimes i do it as a reflex, y'know. Normally i'd make a copy before doing *anything*, but i was just comparing a couple of similar shots before choosing which to delete...i got carried away, edited and instinctively pressed Ctrl+S

Can you pull the original off your Memory stick using recovery software?

The simplest way to keep this from happening is to create a subfolder in your downloads folder called "edit", select all the images in the download folder, right-click them and drag them into the "edit" folder and choose the copy option. Before you open ANYTHING in an editor.

As you open them in the editor, if you think they aren't worth keeping you can delete them from the edit folder one by one.

shortcuts arent always a good idea. Lots of people think they are the smart/leet thing to use but actually there not. I find saving jpegs best by going to save for web, then it loads up a bit so you have time to think more.
