Sorry guys, but I have another paperwork question. I may be shooting a session with a client and giving them only a CD with images for them to print later on as they want. Does anyone have an example of a release from the photographer so the client can do this legally? I looked it up in my magic legal forms book and it's not there :P

I'm going to jump in and ask my own release question, since Chiqui started this perfect thread. There are books and web sites full of releases, and I often see folks asking for one. However, I read on another thread a little ways back that using someone else's release form was not a good idea (something about copyright violation) and that all releases should be looked at/tweaked by a lawyer prior to use. So what's the real deal with this? How do those of your who use releases a lot do things?

This specific book I'm talking about, Business and Legals Forms for Photographers was meant for photographers to actually use those forms. They are in the book and on the CD.

It is perfectly legal to use someone else's release if they give you permission to do so - just as it is perfectly legal to use someone else's photo, if they give you permission to do so. If the copyright holder gives permission for you to use a work, then the permitted use is not a breach of copyright.
I have/had copies of my standard releases on my old website (sorry, no links, I'm in the process of migrating it to a new home) and explicitly granted permission for anyone else to use or adapt them. I have seen other photographers do the same.
Most photographers who share their releases will recommend you seek your own legal advice before using them - because most photographers are not legal professionals or in any way qualified to provide legal advice, such as contracts.
