| While watching the Alito confirmation hearing (on c-span), before the 1pm break there were banks of remote cameras behind Alito. On all the cameras, the brand names had been removed. Is this response from CanonĂ¢€™s press dominance ads I wonder? Has advertising dollars become so prevalent that no product names can be shown on TV without paying first? Just an observation. |

| I believe (but could be wrong) that the labels are removed (or obscured) so as to not imply there is an edorsement of the product from any political party. |

Just look at all the "product placements" in movies and TV shows now for your answer. It's BIG money and I would guess it's coming from this.
I still laugh that Dell and Apple still get free plugs by the "news" places that need to have a laptop on the news desk (for show mostly as I have only seen a few that had an active network connection). Only one has put their own logo on the back of the screen, but I expect it will be more common - or they will have Dell/whoever pay for the advertising (they might already for all I know). |

I think you can bet that if you see a recognizable 'pooter on a news program, the manufacturer very likely paid for the placement. BTW, just because there is no visible network connection does not rule out WiFi.
