What is it about Moms that causes them to be colourless - and we love them for it.

7 out of the top 10 (70%)are monochrome
12 out of the top 20 (60%)are monochrome

I can't be bothered going further down the list for more stats but it is interesting - no? Would all the Psychology Majors please stand up and explain our collective subconciousnesses please.

I'll admit...mine was...

I don't know why I chose too...mostly to emphasize the mom more in mine...as there were some distracting elements if I woulda left it in color.

Portraits are classic as B&W...Candids are classic as B&W. A fair number of the Top 20 were either one or the other...

What the good doctor said: most of the "mother" shots are portraits, and motherhood is "serious" to an awful lot of people, and "serious portraiture" has a long history of being done in B/W, whch tends to add a touch of gravitas to the image. I'm not the least surprised.

Speaking of gravitas. I still can't get used to seeing the capital 'B' and 'M' in your name... :)

Black and white pics remind me of things that somehow remain strongly emotive, idealized and visually true, whereas color brings too much realism to it. I I know it makes no sense, but that's just my point of view.
In fact, my favorite picture of my mother is in black and white, and trapped in that retrospect, she looks like a kid, laughing and forever young, carefree, vibrant... dunno.
I suppose that once I really understand the woman she is now, I'll likely take her picture again in b/w.

my two cents on psychology thru photography. :)
