| Do people on DPC find that winning images these days show obvious over-saturation and/or over sharpenning and/or over-contrast. I don't want to say and I don't want people to think i'm saying that some image didn't deserved to win. but with the comunity we have here, if we'd give a ribbon to every image that worth it we'd need 15 or 20 of them each challenge. But the question is: Do the "ribbon" reside in the "over"? |

From my personal and less-than-professional observation.
Yes.
However, it isn't a *new* trend by any stretch of the imagination. |

What do you mean by "over?" Do you mean "more than natural" or "too much that it's almost unpleasant?"

Could it be, that this thread will always come up....
Just that it will follow trends, I remember it with all the B&W, and then with the color d-saturation, it will be whatever next trend occurs.

Over as in "more than natural" and over as in "not even printable for the most part of the image". Most if not all of these images are very pleasant and are well deserved winner by the idea and composition. |

| Just looking through the first five pages of the Challenge Archive, it doesn't look like a rule or trend but some images are a bit over saturated for my taste...plenty of them aren't. |

No... The voters here are for the most part experienced photographers and able to tell if an image is overly photoshoped. I will personally take 1 or 2 points off of an image score if I think extreme enhancements were made. It just depends on the image. It really doesn't matter what was used if the image appeals to YOU. You are smart and know the difference between good and bad, given PS or not. If it appeals to you and is within your tolerance of PS use, then it's good, if not, give it a 1 like some of the other hapless voters who think a 1 is warranted if the pic threatens their own entry or... :)
I still think dpchallenge should NEGATE 1 and 10 votes if they are outside the bell curve voting patern but that's a different conversation.

I personnally think for that different conversation that 1s, 2s, and 3s should absolutely give a comment for their vote to count and I absolutely don't judge what the voters are giving high scores these days. I just wanted to let people know that I find many winning shots are over saturated (up to the clipping level by the way) and wanted to know if others tought like me. Amd I'd never give 1s to a shot because it's so good it can place better than mine! |
