Take them -- don't use them if you don't want to, but definitely take your chosen weapon. Seriously, it's a rare occasion -- you photograph. Considering leaving behind participation in the shared activity that brought you together just leaves me confused.
I understand that looking thru the viewfinder is a fairly solitary activity -- but if your attention is on each other you may not want to pull the P&S out either. So why take them even?
If you want to take a camera to capture the experience, I don't see the logic in not taking the tools your use to -- with the exception of the portability when doing other things than photographing.
I vote for taking them, so you don't have the regret of not doing so -- but concentrate on being a part of the experience, not recording it.

Wow, not long now. You have 2 major things coming up soon. Congratulations on getting out of the Navy soon too. My husband retired in 2000 after 20 years AF. It's a tough life but great experiences too. |

On a trip like this, I take both my dslr and a p&s. There will be times where you will want the high quality, but there will also be times where you want to be able to leave the camera in a beach bag without worrying about it walking away while you and your spouse are off doing something ;)
Come to think of it, I would recommend taking the dslrs (possibly just one), and a couple of waterproof disposables. |

i don't understand why you think that doing something together that you both love to do isn't "coupley". I say bring the cameras.... enjoy your trip. You won't be spending the entire trip in your room. If that were the case, what's the point of getting on a ship that will be stopping at exotic locations?
PS....congrats! |

| Take the SLRs. You can always leave them at the hotel on days you want to be extra coupley. |
