Is somthing wrong with this?
I took this with my Canon 20D and EF 50 f/1.8 lens. Flash (EX 580) was bounced of the wall.
The right side of the picture (my son's left face) seems to be very pixelated or missing big areas of color... Does anyone know why? Other pictures are great but some pictures turn out like this. Are there too many colors? I'm confused.
I did "save for Web" but the bad spots on the image looks the same even at full quality. I didn't shoot raw but the camera is set to Large and best quality. I'm also using Adobe RGB color setting in the camera.
The attached picture is only cropped and saved. It's at 100% size
ISO 100
f/8.0
1/80 sec

I have an 8 week old and also came across some blotchy skin tones. I think that it is just a combination of a little too much light and newborns skin. You might try looking at the learn section for touching up portraits. Bluring the skin should clear it up. |

The picture looks fine to me. My only comment would be that his upper lip and his nostrils are more in focus than his eyes. Remember to focus on the eyes then recompose. (and don't feel bad, I have to keep telling myself that over and over and over and over and over and over) |

Thanks for your replies. And yes dwterry, I agree with your comments.
But this was only a test picture (he was a little snotty for a real nice picture anyway! :) ). I'm only concerned with the blotchy colors on the one side of the face and worried if something is not righ t with the camera. I cropped this to only show the problem areas. The original actually included my wife anda part of our living room. |

Baby's skin is very thin and reacts with light when taking pictures. The blood vessels show through, or, in the case of newborns, the skin looks very red. The blotchy'ness appears to be small blood vessels.
