I just heard that the rebel XT is being discontinued in about a month, and i was about to buy it for myself... does anyone know what is slated to be the new model of it? and should i wait?

I would doubt that very, very much. It's only been available a short while, and there are still tons of adverts on the TV for it.

Edit: where did you hear about this?

I don't know what's next, but if they follow the same advertising principle as musicals, then they promote the hell out of it just before withdrawing it to make sure they clear the last of the stock.

The XT was just introduced in Spring of 2005, so I'd be shocked if they discontinued it that fast, unless to do a minimalist update like Nikon did with the D70/D70s or Canon did with the 1DMkII/1DMkIIn. The normal product cycle is 18 months, meaning (perhaps) an update later in 2006.
The Canon product most likely to be updated in the next 8-10 weeks is the 20D.

I wonder who will be the first to start the "leaked specks of 30D" thread.
I'll say 1.3 crop sensor, 10MP, 5fps, Digic III, 20shot RAW buffer, magnesium body with weather sealing. MSRP will stay same at about $1500.

Canon would be insane to replace the 20D with a 1.3 sensor and obsolete the EF-S lenses. Ain't gonna happen.

If they gave it weather sealing, who would buy the 1 series?

I'm on the same page with Yido on the dream camera. I got butterflies reading it.

However, I would venture a guess that they will keep the 20D in the EF-S territory with the 1.6x crop.

It might be interesting if they put the Rebel and the 20D line together, releasing a 20D body form with comparable stats to the 1d, but I don't think it will happen.

The only thing I actually don't like about the 1d is the size of the body (and the cost).

I'm waiting for the announcement in Feb/March too.

That's what the nikon folks are saying about the D2X.

I have a friend with a 1Dmk2n and this is hte frist 1 series i got to hold. I like it. A tad heavy at first, but you'd get used to it - i'd like to try;) With a big lens it works well. I want to record the sound of 8.5 fps - music, sweet music :)

We;ll likely have a leak by the end of this month. I think i might like a 5D the more i hear and read about it - the price is a deal killer for me at this time though.
