A lot of those are nice photos.
I don't understand why they're called 'offbeat'?

'Cuz they're not the sort of image that usually gets published by a news agency; they are "off the beat". A reporter used to have (probably still does) a "beat" that he covered, and an offbeat story or image falls outside his usual area of coverage.
