do the sensors ever wear out on digital cameras? My Hp735 is two years old
now (I'm saving for an SLR) It seems like the images aren't as clear and are very
pixelated sometimes. I can't seem to find anything about the life expectancy of
the sensors. Are they supposed to last forever?

when the sensor goes you'll know it...usually a little cluster or an individual pixel will go...yours could just have a build up on it somehow especially if the body isn't sealed that built up over time...or the lens needs cleaned.

Sensors should be pretty sturdy, as long as there is no dust going in the camera body. Pixels die over time, but it won't lead to a bad picture quality, just some speckles (10-100 in a million pixel or so)
