My new laptop will be delivered today. It shipped only yesterday, which is a full 7 days before the original estimate, which is nice (as long as everything works properly). I've got my Linksys router at home already, waiting to be set up. I even had to buy a new surge protector, because my other one only had 7 outlets (and one was unuseable because of the huge mega-adapter plugged into the adjacent one). I'm drawing a lot of power from that one outlet, I know, but I don't think it comes anywhere near 1800 watts.
Now, a few more questions:
1) Should I leave my photo-editing software on my PC, that has a regular monitor, or is the lappy monitor better? I'm inclined to use my regular PC for that, for color clarity, etc. What's the verdict?
2) The router, obviously, is a hardware firewall. Windows XP has a built-in firewall. Do I need another software firewall (like Zone Alarm), or am I ok?
3) I'm going to stick with AVG/Grisoft virus protection. I use it on my PC, and it works fine so far (though I'm also very careful about getting viruses). Anyone have any bad opinions of this? Mostly, I like it cuz it's free.
4) Heat problems: I've seen those little laptop cooling tray things that you plug in the USB port and the fans blow. Is that really necessary? I'm running a 1.73 GHz processor, and a 60GB Hard Drive (probably 5400 RPM). Have any of you had serious heat problems with your laptop?
OK, gurus, answer away. Thanks, by the way, for everyone's help here.

I think in order to answer your first question honestly, people would need more info on the laptop and the pc. What type of monitors, how much ram, etc. |

#2 I run a 2nd software firewall on my laptop to be safe
#3 I use that on my pc too and it works fine
#4 My laptop kept shutting down on me, I finally got the cooling tray and haven't had any problems since. They tend to run hot when that editing software and large pics are being used/processed.
Congrats on the new laptop :)
