Those of you who have been around a LONG time here might remember this early challenge entry of mine:
The knife in the photo is a ceramic knife made by Kyocera, and is a "signature" product endorsed by Ming Tsai, the famous chef who owns the "Blue Ginger" restaurant in Wellesley, MA. I had an opportunity to dine at Blue Ginger last night, and had the great pleasure of meeting Ming and having a short, casual conversation with him. I must say, I was impressed by his down-to-earth demeanor; a real approachable guy. Pretty cool opportunity, I was not expecting it at all!

That makes two of us who have had the experience, then. Of course, I always pull "visiting chef" rank and can get an audience with any proprietor that way, so I have the edge. Nice knives, aren't they? And damn, he can cook...
So... If you're getitng up THERE, why aren't you getting up HERE?

As if a chef would waste his ceramic blade on a person, the bones would chip the blade! .....it is a cleaver you want for that, come on now! |

I met him a few years ago at the Food Network Studios. I won tickets to see a taping of Emeril Live and when we got there there was some sort of reception going on with all the chefs and network people. We kind of just wandered in (we got there like 4 hours early). No one stopped us. I met Ming, Emeril, Bobby Flay, Sarah Moulton and Mario. All were very nice and down to earth. Was a great time and the food was absolutely awesome. The taping was even fun.

Sorry Row-Bear! I thought about you, and if I could have scheduled this trip at the end or beginning of a week, I'd have loved to have taken an extra day and come to visit! If I can get such a trip scheduled, I'll be sure to give you a holler.
And damn, he sure CAN cook! Rates as one of the best meals I've eaten in the past decade. The whole package, service, atmosphere, flavor, presentation, all exceptional. The dessert was so beautiful I hated to eat it!
And no, I didn't bring a camera, LOL!

That is too cool Kirbic!! I used to watch him late at night on East meets West, and learned quite a bit. Now I watch him when I can on PBS.
What an absolute thrill for you. :) |

Kyocera does make cameras, and also mobile phones (they own the former qualcomm mobile phone business), along with some other assorted electronics. An interesting company. Kyocera has a very long history as a ceramics company, which led them into the microelectronics industry when many electronic packages were ceramic based (decades ago, LOL). They are still big, very big, in ceramic products for microelectronics.
