I'm not talking about sepia-toning or making the edges look tattered. I've been trying to make some pictures look like they were taken in the late 40's early 50's. I want to replicate the look of the first Kodachrome film. So far, I've tried playing around with the contrast, color saturation, and noise/blur and a couple of other filters, but no success to my satisfaction. I've also done a half hour of googling but I couldn't turn up any results.

Try downloading the action here and see if it's any help. I haven't tried it.

I'll be giving these a good test run. Especially that tri-x one. ;o)

Alright, but know I'm not sure what to do with it. I only have elements 2.0.
EDIT: I deleted the effects cache, and installed it under c:\...\adobe\pse2\previews\effects\image effects
but I don't see it showing up in the Effects palette.

You need to click the little right-pointing arrow near the top of the palette and locate and activate the action. From that point on it will show up in the palette directly. Most of my actions are "inactive" because I rarely use them and if they were ALL on the ready-list I'd have to do too much scrolling.

I'm probably missing something simple here, but when I pull the palette down, the only thing with a right arrow is the 'More' button, which lists
Close To Palette Well
Help Contents
Help
List View
Thumbnail View
Apply.
I tried making a new folder called 'Kodachrome' in the effects folder and the folder shows up, but the only thing in it is an effect called 'original' which I can't do anything with. |

Perhaps this link, entitled Using Photoshop Actions in Photoshop Elements will get you on the right track. |

This looks promising. I'm going to give it a try, thanks for the link, and thanks for the info Bear. |

Agh, I can't get anything to work. Could anybody give me some advice on what settings to do? I've been adding noise (5%) and increasing the saturation of the yellows and reds a bit. It almost looks right when there aren't people in the subject, but that really throws the skin tones off. |
