My instant reaction is that I like the composition but the sky looks a bit out of place. |

I wonder how it would look in black and white? |

The picture actually looks really good...the sky is a bit "over-burned" (at least it looks like you burned it). But overall, I like it.

a little too burned on the sky - but not that much. I like it - plus it goes well with your user name. Might consider it for your profile pic.

It's a good photo, nice composition. But it is a little too dark. I think that the stacks could use a little bump in brightness, as well as the sky. It almost looks as if something (like a thumb or the camera strap) was creeping in the top left and bottom right corners due to the darkened edges. I know it's probably a filter, but it doesn't quite work. Perhaps because of the darkness of the sky. Also, the sky looks like it was from a different picture, and you just placed to stacks in front. But that might be because of the richness in color of the sky and lack there of in the stacks. Enigmania has a point, I would like to see it in B&W, perhaps the dark sky and corners will work then. Just a thought. |

Thank you guys for all the replies. I am somewhat new to all of this.. Photography has always been a lover of mine and also something I always enjoyed imersing myself in others work. Now I am just trying to improve so eventually I can get my own visons out there.
The sky was not taken from another photo of course.. but I did darken it in photoshop.. which maybe I went overboard. Deep saturation is something I think maybe I should stay away from? Its just visually pleasing to my eyes sometimes but maybe that takes away from the photograph? making it less realistic and believable I'm sure I do from time to time. I guess I like looking at things differently than I can see them in everyday life. I am just learning this is not always good when editing a photo. I will be better. :)
and here is the same photo just converted to black and white w no adjustments...
Thank you guys once again!

You certainly have an eye for composition. Learning to post process images in a subtle way is something that will come fairly quickly. I think most people start by over-doing it a bit and then pull back a bit and learn to enhance an image subtly.
BTW I think the black and white version looks great. Not that the colour version was bad :) |
