Can anyone recommend a (preferibly free) program that allows me to edit alreay existing PDF files?

sorry dont think there is one that I know of, only adobe acrobat the pro/full version you can fully edit it (changing type and everything). You are able to bring it into photoshop though then it will be an image and if you are able to be creative you can do what ever in photoshop.

Very PDF 2.0 is quite good. YOu can try it for free and purchase it for $89.95 here.

I see a few completely free downloads but from what I read they don't have the functionality I suspect you are seeking. I googled "free pdf editor", look for yourself.

The "writer" portion of Open Office can create PDF's - just not sure if it can read and extract the pieces first. Give it a try - It's price is hard to beat and it's a useful package anyway -> Link
