Let me suggest a new approach: trade your Sony for a (good) pocket camera. The only thing you'll regret about your new cam is... how big it is!! That makes difficult to carry it wherever you go or take pics unnoticed... the small digicam can always be kept in your pocket for those times.

Otherwise I don't think you'll use the Sony much from now on.

I'd keep it, Judy...

there are times when a smaller camera is nice to have, for sticking in your pocket for a quick photo.
Besides... i NEVER let anyoen use my dslrs... so you can hand it to whomever when they want to take a picture.. Plus that sweety hubby of yours might start using it

When I got the 717, I gave him my Mavica 92 and he really likes that camera. He is a sweetie, but has no interest in my 717 and neither does my daughter. They are both strictly point and shooters.

I know what you could do...you could give it to me :-p
Hmmmm, i don't recall ever receiving a xmas present from you, so consider it 17 years of christmasses :D

But seriously, if you want to make some money from it but not give it up completely, my dad might be interested in buying some accessories - i know he wants either wideangle/teleconverter (or both), and he might be interested in the spare battery (it was one spare one, right?) and maybe other stuff. PM me if interested

I held on to my F717 as long as I could, although there was a steady stream of potential buyers for it. Eventually, I gave in and sold it. -And yes, I do regret parting with it. I have two Canon10Ds now, and while I'm very happy with them, I miss the kind of shots I used to take with the Sony. I was (and remains) an excellent camera, IMO, very reliable, versatile and convenient.

I'd hold on to it. The five hundred bucks you might be able to get for it, will unlikely buy you a better camera.

Keep it...Sell it...Keep it...Sell it...Keep it...Sell it -

Sheesh.
Okay...if I sell it and profit $500 from it, added to what I have now, I'll have $1200 to work with NOW. I'll have to think about it some more. You guys gave me some things to think about, but I can see that there are two distinct camps and my head can travel to either of them with ease!

I'd say sell it, it´s almost as big as the 20D so you'll probably never use it, just get a small P&S if you want a second camera.

I sold my powershot G1 to get the Rebel, then I sold the Rebel to get the 20D, and I had to sell my 20D to finance the 5D.. love to get another 20D...

I have decided that as soon as I get paid for my next closing, which should happen on Thursday, I'm going to list the 717 at a high price on Ebay and see what happens.

Because anything can happen with a real estate deal, I'm not going to sell the camera until I'm sure I'll have the rest of the money, which probably won't be in my hands until the middle-end of next week.

I'll let you know when I list it if anyone is interested, but I will tell you up front that I'm probably going to list it for more than most of you would pay for it :)
