Would love to see a monthly challenge as well as a yearly.
I find I always have lots of shots at the end of the month and I guess others also have plently of great shots that dont fit a challenge.
eg have a "Best shot of Jan 2006"
Entry from 1st Feb - 7th Feb 2006 and judging the following week.
Im guessing there would be an amazing amount of entries and some wonderful shots that we wouldnt normally see.

It's been suggested many times, never implemented. The basic argument against it is that themed challenges are what we are about, unlike the many, many sites that do more open competitions, and that the DPC community would not be best-served by opening up a regular, free-study challenge.

Actually, free studies are more or less random in when they show up.
