do any of you guys know the percentage of photos (on one site) that you sell each month i.e if you have 1000 photos uploaded do you sell aprox 100p/m?

A lot of variables....the site, what sort/quality/'if the market is looking for them' kind of images, what sort of traffic, micro/macro stock.

Have you got any site in mind?

First, let me say, I do not do stock at this time. This is just from what I've picked up from reading the various threads.

From what I've seen on here it's not close to this. Check out the Alamy thread. After a year the people on there are getting one to five sales a month.

As for the smaller stock companies I do belive there is more sales/traffic but the price per sale is a lot lower.

I make about $1.50 per photo per site. So my 100 pics that are up on 3 sites net me around $450 a year. Per month? I dunno - divide? lol

I sold 101 on shutterstock last month and I have 104 images up.

On ShutterStock I am Avg about 750 downloads a month...but each month gets better the more you upload.

I started shutterstock recently. My first group was accepted about two weeks ago and I've now had the second batch approved. I have 20 images on file (one rejection total) and they've been collectively downloaded 12 times in about 12 days. I'm now averaging 3-4 downloads per day since all 20 were not initially available. Of the 20 images, the downloads came from 8 photos.

Hey, do what I did. Pick 10 to join and get your feet wet and then make a decision from there. I didn't upload all my photos right away but I'm going through my archive and organizing potential stock shots.

I'll ask for the sale - join from my shutterstock link in my sig!

I still plan on submitting to a RM site (alamy or myloupe) so at least for now I'm saving my best photos.

One advantage of Shutterstock is that their standard is 2.5MP and they allow editting. I have some great photos that had a distracting element in a corner or bottom of the photo b/c I couldn't position myself to avoid it. Since I start with a 6MP photo, I can simply crop to a panaramic and still have a 3-5MP file.

Shutterstock also allows editting of photos that RM don't like so I've been able to salvage less than perfect exposures.

Most sites are picky on the image size and quality - the 5600 you have is not gonna cut it (so i have read many times on threads). Not enough MP and too noisy.

Stock interests me, from teh point of sitting here and making money while i hang out on DPC or whatever. From several threads over at FM, i'd not bother with the micro stock route for several reasons.

Until i have 300 to 500 images to submit, i'll not even bother trying. Next year at this time it's my goal to enter stock. Till then I will lurk read and learn.

The way to make money at it though is to submit many images, and keep it up month after month. So it does become work. Having posted with folks that make $60,000 a year of their images at least reinforces the possibility a living can be made at it.

I freely edit my Alamy submissions - clone, dodge, burn, gradients, filters, desat, even crop just a little. Out of 50, I had 1 rejected because I cropped too much and it degraded the image. Had to try... :)

I dove back into the alamy thread again (recommend for all) and I'm reading that. I'm 19 for 20 at shutterstock and I see people post on their forum constanstly about how tough the reviewers are. I'm tough on myself and won't submit if it's not good but I had to really work brightness, sharpen, and saturation on a couple tropical scenes. I don't think the result looked plastic but I never could reproduce the colors I wanted. (It was hazy and rainy the whole time I was in Guam so I didn't have the best conditions to work with when the shot was made).
