wow, heida has now taken second place!

thanks for putting in all the time it must have taken to collect those stats and generate your spreadsheets - I find that kind of stuff way too cool.

Just wondering if the open challenges "pattern" and "Oops" that will be posted after 12pm tuesday evening should be included in the 2005 DPC stats as I think they will be listed that way in our DPC portfolios.

Which would you rank higher?

4 First Place Ribbons + 1 Third Place Ribbon or 2 First Place Ribbons + 3 Third Place Ribbons

Too me, I know I would much prefer to have the 4 first place ribbons. So I find it odd that "Librodo" beats out "Heida" (not that I think either would complain, and both are obviously superb photographers). But I do not think Ribbon Avg is necessarily the best way to decide a "tie". Some challenges are likely to have lower photographic appeal than others. I am sure that if one were to graph it, one would see some challenges having a much higher average score than others.

Anyways, I always like to use the "golf" approach for tie determination. Where each place equals it's points. (1st = 1pt, 2nd = 2pts, 3rd = 3pts). And the lowest score is truly the higher

Heida's score factor = 15/1.66

Librodo score factor = 19/2.11

Likewise, this works well for comparing Sammie with 1st, 2nd, 3rd wins against brin61 with three 1st place wins.

Both have three wins, but I think it's a given that not all ribbons are equal (all are great kudos, and in the Olympics a bronze medal is still an amazing accompolishment worthy of respect. But are the athletes competing for the bronze? no...they compete for the golds. 1st is weighted heavier than than second and third. Likewise, if I were to score this I would do so in the following fashion.

Hence, when comparing those who received three ribbons I'd adjust it as such:

brin61 (3,0,0) = 3/1.0
Larus (2,1,0) = 4/1.33
Sammie (1,1,1) = 6/2.00
qmdi (0,3,0) = 6/2.00
Pedro (1,0,2) = 7/2.33
patrinus (0,0,3) = 9/3.00

Just a different philosophy...
