Saw it tonight. Good movie, but I agree they could have cut the running time by about an hour... particularly the creepy crawlies and the dinosaur fight scenes. Cinematography was excellent and definitely had a Peter Jackson look and feel. Narnia... another good movie, but not great... I think I was spoiled by LOTR trilogy, which were unbelievably excellent in all respects. I recently watched the extended editions and can't believe some of the wonderful scenes they cut from the theatrical releases.

I thought is was great fun, but you got in for $8.50? We got popped for $10.00 a head, ouch.
Originally posted by DrAchoo: I quite enjoyed Kong. Yes, it was long, probably by 45 minutes, BUT the development of the characters did make up for it. Come on, the central park scene was priceless and worth your $8.50 right there.
I'm fairly stingy with rating movies, but on my blog I gave it a 9. (I think I've only had one other 9 this year.) |

Make sure you get the Peter Jackson's King Kong Production diaries on DVD, it makes you appreciate all the work that went into making a movie like this.

I didn't see it, but did have a close look at the poster artwork. They put a lot of good detail in on Kong.
What really confused me though was the big lizard in the promo poster.
When was the last time you saw a reptile that had slime pouring out of its mouth? Huh? Every lizard and snake I've ever seen has a remarkably dry mouth. Saliva is part of mammal's very different digestions system.
Weird.
Anyhow, it looked like the movie kept a little closer to the book. Didn't look interesting enough for me to go watch it though. I found the book a little dull. |

I've seen King Kong, and being a fan of the original movie, I really like this one, it's really well done, and stays really close to the story in the original. this is one of the greatest movie of the 21st century. Peter Jackson knows what he's doing :)
and I've seen Narnia, it's really well done, but it's an adventure for kids not adults, I found the movie a bit to childish for my taste, but it still is quite good :)
the movie Brothers Grimm is really good, it's an adventure like Narnia, but made for adults, and is really fun to watch.

I loved king kong, though I never saw the original. Many scenes *really* dragged on, which did spoil it somewhat, but it was more than made up for by the CGI on kong. He was by far the best actor I've seen in a long time - full of emotion, really expressive but never anthropomorphised (sp??). Sometimes I forgot he wasnt real, and found myself thinking how great the animal trainers must have been, or how lucky they were to have got some of the expressions.
And the finale just has to be seen in the cinema.
The dinosaur and bug scenes were overdone, but the effects were cool - when was the last time you saw a dinosaur pile-up?? Not many dinosaur animations can break new ground like that did.
I didnt find any problems with casting, but like i said i never saw the original so barely knew the story. But you have to applaud the acting, considering a lot of it will have been done to a bluescreen.

I loved King Kong.
I thought it was paced fantastically, with no scenes dragging out too long. If there was a long scene, it was long for a reason, and it was great.
When a film is so long I can enjoy it for longer, which really makes me feel like I've gotten my money's worth :)

We saw King Kong and The Producers this past week.
Both movies were excellent in my opinion with the Producers being my favorite of the two.
I agree that some of Kong was over done, but not to the point of discomfort.
If you really want to see a bad movie, ;-) "Santa Claus Conquers The Martians" would be my number 1 movie of the Top Ten Stinker List.

I was a bit unprepared for "The Producers." I didn't realize it was Mel Brooks and I only knew a short idea of the story line. It, too, was way over the top much in a much more entertaining and campy way. I enjoyed it a lot. |

King Kong was all right. I have to agree with everyone who said that it did drag on and on... The one thing that I did notice was that there was incredible catch lights in the eyes of everyone in every scene! In one scene the catch lights in two characters were rectangular with the center dark. I would love to know how they did that! |
