I found this thread over at FM and there's a nice 100-300L/5.6 for sale for just $350. Discontinued but a good lens for a good price. I have no affiliation with the seller. You'll need to register and log in to view the thread.

Here's a very recent review on this lens. It's an almost 20 year old design, and optically is an excellent performer. The build quality is not up to curren L lenses, and the zoom is of the push-pull variety. The lens front element rotates during focussing, so polarization is troublesome.
