I bought this lens and after i attached it and changed my camera settings, mostly all you see through the view finder is the adapter and half the photo is cut off all around the outside. it didnt come with any instructions and my camera manual shows how to connect it but i cant figure out what i'm doing wrong.

The viewfinder will be blocked by the teleconverter. To get a good idea of the composition you have to use the LCD.

Unless the viewfinder is TTL (through the lens) any add-ons to the camera will block it. The add-ons will also block any focus assist lights.

Most of the telephoto adapters will vignette (cause dark corners) if used at the wide end of the camera's zoom. Start with your camera zoomed all the way to the telephoto end, and see how far you can zoom back before you see problems in the photo. You should be able to see the issues on the LCD.
The converter prolly will block the optical viewfinder, so you'll have to compose on the LCD unless the cam has an EVF.
