I have high myopia (Nearsighted) but even that is questionable these days with the 40 year old reading glasses thing coming on.
I was wondering if anyone thought if its easier to see out of a full frame camera like Canons 5D? I can barely see out of my rebel xt anymore... |

Have you looked into getting your eyes zapped? I did that a couple of years ago and it was major life changing experience.
Glasses or not, your portraits are Excellllllent! |

Just for what it's worth ... I'm legally blind 20/100 corrected.
Shoot with your glasses on and adjust your diopter for the best sharpness. Don't press your glasses to your face, because this distorts the optics of your glasses, just lightly press the viewfinder to your glasses.
I know a lot op people try to shoot with either thier glasses off or press thier glasses to thier face... resist this! Also, talk to your eye doctor about it. More than likely he can get ya back in the game.

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to exclaim that I have JOINED TEAM 5D!!!
The viewfinder on the 5d seems huge compared to the 20d. I have them both right in front of me now and there is a visible difference in the size. This is great, as it makes it fun and more pracical to manual focus than it was with my 20d.
Oh, and the 5d is as sweet as sugar.

Hmmmm....well ive worn contacts since I was 9. I am married to an Optometrist (early retired) and he is steering me away from the eye surgery (risks & blah blah blah)
I just can't see jack anymore when I look through my camera. I am having to rely on my mind with settings instead of what I am actually seeing, how lame is that?
Anyone want to trade a New 5D and a slew of lenses for a fat juicy 2 carat diamond?

My Brother in law just got Lasik done, and he swears it has changed his life. He now sees 20/20 in both eyes. He was 20/fingers as the eye doctor put it. Meaning that he could not read the big E at the top of the chart, but he could tell how many fingers she was holding up 6" in front of his face.
He shopped around and did a lot of research on it before he went through with it.

Does the 5D have diopter adjustments like the 1 series cameras?

The built-in diopter adjustment goes from -3 to +1; I don't know offhand whether there are additional corrective lenses available...

Canon sells them for the 1 series, so if the 5D has an adjustment they probably sell them for that body too. I would be terribly surprised if they weren't interchangeable.

I'm sure I remember reading a thread eons ago that concluded exactly that, I've just never had the need to research it.
I did a quick search on "Canon diopter" at B&H, and there are different ones, apparently there are a few "oddball" models. From a B&H product description:
For all EOS cameras, except: EOS 3, A2/E, Elan 2/7 series, IX & IX Lite
There is a different product for the cameras referenced in the above snippet.

I also have both the 5D and the 20D. The problem is that now that I am used to using the 5D I cannot use the 20D anymore. I have been thinking of selling it but cannot do that either. I love the big screen on the 5D sooooooooo much.....

You don't have to sell your 20D....you can loan it me though. I'll take real good care of it. ;-)
