Can anyone tell me the difference between the BP-511 and the BP-511A batteries for the Rebel (and others)

My son got me the 511A for christmas and it looks almost the same as the 511. It came in the Canon package and is stamped with the Canon name and labels. The difference I can see is the original has a 1100mAh and the A has 1380 mAh according to the stickers.

Don't want to blow up the camera

Any help is greatly appreciated

My understanding is that mAh is a measure of how long the juice will last. The 511A looks like it will be a longer lasting battery on a single charge than the 511. I have a 1400 mAh off-brand that I use in my Rebel, with no issues. So you should be safe from blowing it up. ;D

The BP-511A is a newer version that you have correctly assessed has a little higher capacity. I use both the BP-511 and BP-511A interchangeably in both the 5D and 10D with no issues.
