I'm having trouble figuring out the best way to let clients view proof prints after a job. I don't want to touch all of them up before I let them see them to choose because it is a waste of time so I just explain to them how the picture isnt the final product, etc.
BUT
What is the best way to present them? Proof sheets at wolf hold 36 thumbnails (bigger than normal thumbnails though) but they cost like 5.99 per sheet - it's so much cheaper to print 4x6 singles. Then there is the 3.5x5 option - but that size crops the photo which I don't like. Currently I am printing the proofs out on 4x6 and putting them in a cheap album and numbering them and then having the clients select which numbers they want. How does everyone else do it? |

Personally, I NEVER let clients see unfinished shots. I look through all shots from a sitting, choose the keepers, PS as needed and then print proof sheets of the finals or post them online so the clients can see them. Showing unfinished work gives an unprofessional aire imo.

If you want to sell those shots, you darn sure better post process EVERY one of your proofs. Otherwise you are probably cutting your sales in half. Clients don't know how good you can make them look, so you better be showing your best stuff for proofs.
Just my 2 cents. :) |

Some clients want to see all of the photos and decide for themselves. My opinion of what is the best one of them may not be what they might choose for themselves, but like you said, editing 20 or more photos is a huge time consumer. Then you have the issue of making a black and white proof for them to review also.
It's all such a complicated mess isn't it?
I sent my clients a 600x400 sized photo in email (with the word SAMPLE) in watermark, and thats how they reviewed them. Saved on printing and my running to the developers as well.
I use dpc prints, so after Im done selling them prints, I hook them up with the link so they can order coffee mugs or t-shirts afterward and I can make a few more bucks.
Let us know what you decide. |

^^ So you ps'd them before you let them view or no?
There is no way, if I'm getting a lot of jobs, that I can PS hundreds of prints a week BEFORE my clients ever see them...and risk the chance that they aren't going to select any.
Maybe I should make this clearer. Most of the jobs I go on I sell by the print...5 dollars for a 4x6, 10 for a 5x7, etc. I do not get paid for my time on the job (i dont usually do weddings) so i rely on the print sales to make my money. (Its just a hobby right now). So if I could possibly stand to make no money at all, why would I take the time to PS 80 prints per job (usually what I've kept after 3 or 4 hours). |
