I have been crunching some numbers with respect to purchasing the Canon 20D with either the Sigma 70-200 2.8 DG -or- the Canon 70-200 2.8L (non IS).
What I have come to realize is that with the current rebate program (which doubles with two qualified items) I can get the Canon 20D & Canon 70-200 2.8L for a difference of $173.00 over the Sigma version of the lens.
Would most of you consider that amount worth the jump?

If you have the cash, I would say buy the L glass. I only wish I had the cash for better lenses.

without a doubt, even though the Sigma lens is good, it's still way slower to focus than the Canon lens, and that really is worth the $173 extra ;) plus you get weather sealing, a white lens, and the "L" as a bonus ;)

I don't believe that the non-IS lens is weather sealed. It's still a great piece of kit, though.

Even if the lens is weather seales, the body is not.
Long term you;ll probably be happier with teh L glass. Me, well, i have no patience when it come to buying things, so i'd likley get teh cheaper lens and then get more stuff (lenses, tripod, etc).

I know for a fact that the non IS is NOT weather sealed. |

I'd go with the L lens over the Sigma for only $173 difference.

If you need a printer or another lens, you get a 3x discount... |

It would be difficult to get an additional lens (even with the triple rebate) without spending a good chunk of change. (The printer choices on the rebate form don't excite me)

Just buy the cheapest lens on the list and ebay the thing. Chances are you could sell it for close to the web-retail price on ebay (sometime more) and you get the extra rebate on the other stuff. From memory isn't the 50f1.4 on the list? |

The 50f1.4 is on the list, but that would be a "keeper" if you didn't already have it :-)
IIRC, the cheapest is the 75-300, a $160 lens. You only get a $5 rebate on it ($15 trippled), but assuming the OP gets an extra $100 on the body and $40 on the 70-200, its almost free.
