Sunday the 22nd of january 2006

At 12.00 (noon), give or take half an hour, we'll meet at the 'Restauratie' of the Amsterdam Central Station. It is located at track 1a (spoor 1a).

I choose this location over a pub because I got lost myself when I tried to find the one I wanted to go to. :) No seriously, it is much easier to meet there when most of us will arrive by train (I assume) and it is a calm location where you can drink a cup of tea or get a sandwich.
From there we can also decide what to do depending on weather conditions and such.

Here are some photos of the location, so that you cannot miss it. :)

When everyone is present we could start to walk in the city, going via the Jordaan (detour) or more straight towards the Schuttersgallerij (free gallery of large Dutch masterpaintings of city rulers) and the Begijnhof. There you are very close to the Spui with some fine cafes and pubs. Maybe get a pint or two.
From there it's not so far to the FOAM. At the FOAM you are not allowed to take photos inside, but they have (large) lockers to put your stuff in. When you like art-deco/Jugendstil we can also take a peak at the inside of the Tuschinski movie theater that's nearby (5min). But only the lobby is free to visit. It is one of the most beautifull movie theaters in the world imo.
From the FOAM we could walk (10min) to the Heineken Experience. The Heineken Experience will take some time with the waiting line outside and the 75 minutes (Heineken's estimate) inside.
Near the Heineken Experience is also a PANNEKOEKEN restaurant (closes at 20.00, have no idea how busy they are in the evening).

After that we'll see and we can change it all on the spot, no problem with me. I'll PM you in the week before the GTG to give my cellphone number and such.

The Foam (Amsterdam Photography Museum) exhibition about Henri Cartier-Bresson, "A Retrospective". Entrance is EUR 6.50

Heineken Experience, entrance is EUR 10.00

Yep good question. Az, what do you suggest for a meeting time, and which of the pubs you mentioned is closest to the central train station?

Well, I own the copyright on the pics I made of them haha...

Do I need to bring a model for people wanting to do portraiture in amsterdam? I can ask a few of the girls if they wanna come with...

Somewhere between 11.00 and 13.00? Around noon.

The one in the Jordaan is a little bit closer, but after that you have to walk further to the foam. I don't have anything closer in my mind at the moment.

If trains an planes require a different time, say so, or maybe we can wait for your arrival.

I'll be in Finland from January the 8th till the 15th so I probably cannot answer questions during that period.

Sounds good Az, but it's a long time to wait if you get there early, why not just say 12:00 give or take half an hour?

Updated the first message.
I'll be going to Amsterdam next week to check out a pub and make some arrangements if necessary.

Good to see you finally use a proper camera Gary. :)

I'll be in Enschede tomorrow evening btw, but no time to visit you. My niece is taking me out to town and says she has a beautiful date for me. :) It will be late and I can already feel a big headache coming up... (afterwards)

Have a nice time tommorow evening all.

Yep I've turned to Nikon now. I had no choice really, I gave my wife my Canon and I got stuck with her D100.

Don't worry, a couple of Heinekens and Grolschs and she'll be right!

Az, doesn't Grolsch or Heineken have a museum in Amsterdam?
01/01/2006 11:29:42 AM · #21
Yes they do;

The Heineken Experience

Would you (and the others!) like to visit it? There should be enough time for that after the Cartier Bresson exh. Its not that far to walk (imo). Entry is 10 euro, the tour (?) takes about 75 minutes and you are allowed to photograph inside. You get some drinks as well. I've never visited it. Tickets are sold until 17.00 and it closes at 18.00.

Grolsch is from Enschede, linking it to Amsterdam makes you a persona non grata in Enschede. :)

As much as I want to go with you guys, I'm going to have to bail. Sorry!

Sounds good to me. Anastasia and I will be in the Restauratie at 12:00 then. See you there.
