Hey Prof. You were really helpful in my thread, so I thought I'd ask you here quick - that Tamron 28-135 lens you were talking about - is it slower than the 28-75 or was that just a rumour?

It's the 24-135 SP 3.5-5.6. So yes, it is technically 'slower'.
the question is - Does it matter?

How are you going to use the lens? Outdoors or with flash, then the speed is unimportant, because you'll spend most of the time at 5.6 or smaller aperture - the bonus is your're in the heart of the sharpness of the lens.

If you plan on shooting indoors with no flash, then the speed may matter. But remember - at 135 the lens is 5.6, BUT the other lens only goes to 75mm - and at 75mm the 24-135 is at 4 or 4.5, so only 1 stop difference - kicking the iso from 100 to 200 or 200 to 400 is also one stop. About the only time it will really matter is if you are at ISO 800 or 1600 and 1/100 or 1/60 sec - you are now reaching the limits of ISO and handheld shutter speeds. When will this happen? Rarely, unless you frequently shoot weddings or someplace flash is not allowed - if you are after the ambient feel of the light and want to avoid flash, then use a tripod - if you are shootin ISO 800-1600 and handholding at 70mm at 2.8 at 1/60 you are NOT going to get a great quality image, period.

The 24-135 is an absolutely fantastic walkaround lens - to me that means outdoors (walking around...) and one lens that does as much as possible - 24 wide angle, 135 telephoto, macro/close focus. You can certainly use the 28-75 for that, but you'll need to carry (and buy) another lens for hte 75-135 (options: sigma 70-300 APO for $220 or Sigma 70-200 2.8 for $700). Stopping to change lenses means sometimes missing the shot.

I was out today and took these two shots -
135mm, ISO200, f8 1/50 sec handheld
24mm, ISO200, f10 1/50 sec handheld

A 2.8 lens would have had no advantage. I did have my 70-210 2.8 out and did not shot at 2.8 - it was too bright a day, and it was overcast, and i was in a valley.

Only you can decide how you shoot and what works for you. I am just recomending the 24-135 based on a lot of research and personal experience.

It looks like Canon makes several of those cases you are looking at. I don't think they'd fit with a grip, but you might want to go to B&H and try a few out. Some are made for bigger SLR's and my fit the XT with a grip.

Hi again :)

Yido: I didn't even have to GO to B&H. I emailed them and they sent me a link to the perfect lowepro bag. But hey, I'm getting used to the canon backpack. So we'll see :)

NOW, I do have another question!

WHY do all my image files appear in seperate folders when I stick the CF card in the reader? I chose "continuous" for the image file organization in-camera, but is there a way to avoid the 100-images-per-folder rule when uploading?

Thanks for any help -

hi kdkaboom, congrats on the camera I totally missed your posting here, I still have not figured out why it does that with the different folders, its a pain when you want to get individual images out of the card. Of course its not a pain at all when you just tell your program or image storing program on your computer to import them automatically. I just cannot figure that one out.

So what all did you get for your camera?

Hey! Thanks for the commiseration on the file stuff. I dunno wots wot, but it's annoying! As for what's in my bag, if you scroll up there somewhere I wrote a list. Needless to say, I'm having so much FUN!! Got the kit lens and the sigma 70-300mm. That thing is sick! And I really like the kit lens folks... believe it or not ...it's perfect for taking pics of the renovations we're doing in my place (nice and wide, nice and wide).

Anyway, I went out shooting today since the rain broke for a few hours. So many to share, but I felt bad and I didn't wanna deal with the process of uploading one-by-one to DPC...so here, it's in make-you-work directory form:

//kdkaboom.com/RebelRebel/

I went to a classic Brooklyn neighborhood - Ditmas Park - which is realllly close to me - beautiful old houses, beautiful!

Then I went to the Washington Jewish cemetery near me - lovely! There is an orthodox tradition I'd like to look into, since so many of the tombstones had small stones and pebbles placed on top.

Oh, and then I went to Coney Island and had a blast :)

For anyone who cares to look, I hope you enjoy. I am very excited about this camera!

Oh, I'm havin' fun. You have no idea! (Okay, maybe you do heheh)

I wish it weren't so rainy here, though. And I wish I could at least set up indoors, but we're renovating, and it's waaaay dusty in my apartment.

Oh, and by the way, that one photo you said would work for city life...well, I'm keeping a few photos from y'all, tucked away and ready to submit. ;)

Thanks so much for the comments :)

You don't have to upload one by one. You can put them all in one zip file and upload the zip. The only thing that has to be done one by one is the details etc.

I think a new folder is named for every 100 shots you take.
In my card reader I just download the whole thing to my RawShooter and it seems to work fine. I don't know why they have a folder system like that. thankfully my II N isn't like that.

Yeah, for every 100 shots. It's weird. But I'll live, no biggie.

I have bigger fish to fry. All my recent photoshopping has resulted in about 50 images of 30000kb, which means I'm getting "no memory" error messages all over the place. Jebus!

How do you people fit all these friggin' files everywhere!? Geeod!
