I will watch this thread, since I got my D50 yesterday and entered my first challenge shot with it!!

What lenses did you get?

edit for the tips:
Change the camera in your primary camera to D50 in your profile, I am sure you will be using that more often now!

Charge the battery. Insert. Set camera to Auto and take a few pictures.

Now that you got that out of your system sit down in the evening with the manual and the camera. Go through he entire manual and try each setting, play with it, have fun, don't worry about being confused.

Now set the camera "A" (aperture priority mode) and go out and shoot at different F stops and see the difference in depth of field in the shots and how the shutter speed changes.

That will give you a good start.

I just got the D50 as a back up but i use it more than my d2h now. it really does shoot great straight from the box if you are familiar with manual settings go for it, if not, as said before, get it out your system then study the manual for a few and practice.

tips... well, do NOT open the box, return it to the store and buy something nice for your family :o)

the best tip you can get is.. RTFM... READ THE F*** MANUAL, put the camera on one setting, mount it on a tripod and take a picture of someting, then just take out the memorycard, view the picture on your computer, look for something about your picture that might be better, then return your card to the camera, use different settings on your camera and take another picture, always leave the camera on the tripod so you will always take the same picture, just with different settings, keep doing this until your picture is perfect, lighting, focus, DOF, whitebalance, and everything that has to do with camera settings.

then take your camera out for some shots, always use the tripod, take sots of things you like, and use several differrent settings for each setup, always thinking about what you want from the shot, keep doing this for the next year and you actually might learn to take great pictures :)
