How can I recolor this painball gun so I can see what it would look like in other colors? I would like to color it so that I can still see all the grooves, indents, etc. If there's a tutorial on here, just post the link and I'll play with it. This picture was taken off a website and not the picture I'll be using.

Using this picture, you can invert it (black background, white/grey gun. Add a new layer set blending mode to darken, color, overlay, etc... (whatever works for you). Use the paint bucket to flood the new layer. You can adjust opacity of too many details are lost. Another shot, you may have a different process, but something along those lines should get you close.

Would be nice, but it doesn't exist, nor could it. The only way to make a b+w color is doing a lot of painting.

I'm sorry i didn't clarify myself a little better. What I really wanted to do was to see what the marker would look like in another color. That picture isn't in b/w, the gun a flat black color. Here is another version/color.

not true, i saw the program, basically you marked the colors you wanted certain places as lines over where you wanted the color to go. The program simply filled in the blanks. Let me see if i can find it. |

oh, ok... but it still involves manual manipulation of some sort. I thought you were talking about a program that just took a b=w and colorized it automatically.

I use the method of hue/saturation adjustment layers in PS (set to Colorize), with a layer underneath with certain parts of the image that need to be shaded a little because of the colorizing.
Here's my version of the gun, in blue:
And here is the .PSD file if you have photoshop and you want to edit it. Should be able to just change the hue of the body layer and the grip layer, and experiment a little to see how they look.

WOW!!! Thats wonderful. I don't know much about layers, but I'm sure you put some time into it and I really appreciate it. I don't have PS, but I can open that file in PSP and play with the colors a bit. I bought a gun that looks just like that, but the annodizing is faded very badly. So, that's the reasoning behind all this. I want to try different colors for when I decide to annodize it. I want to do some kind of fading from a pewter color from the front of the barrel to a gloss black towards the back. But I would like to play around with other colors to see what else I might like.
I would like to be able to do all that myself, but would appreciate any assistance.
Thanks again
