Is it just me or did anyone else tire of seeing 100 photos of a Christmas tree ornmanets, and 100 photos of figurines or toys? Some of them were unique and got better votes from me...but seems like people just resorted to the easiest thing they had- a Chirstmas tree or a toy figurine. lol I am sure I will be bashed for this because there was so many people who had those photos and I hope people don't take this the wrong way...because some of the pictures were good...it's just where is the creativity? |

I almost did one of a small cristmas tree with a figurine in front of it, but I figured there would be a lot of christmas ones. My entry has nothing to do with either of those now.

Maybe some are trying something new.
Maybe some are trying to get past a technical issue with their cameras.
Maybe some are testing the waters with new equipment.
So what if there are 100 pictures of christmas ornaments? Vote each based on it's own merits as though it were the only one in the challenge. I know it's hard, but it is the only way to be fair. Sure, unique and very creative shots will do better, and let them. Doesn't mean that 50 similar stock shots aren't good, just won't rise to the top.
What if we had a christmas ornament challenge? Then what?
If someone can't be impartial, then they shouldn't vote. |

Happens with every "technical" challenge; people focus on the technique itself, and often shoot whatever comes to hand as they experiment with it. Doesn't surprise me in the least and doesn't bother me either.

I understand where you are coming from... but if you are refering to me not being impartial in my voting I think you are wrong. Yes every photo should be voted on as an individual basis in many ways...but I believe it is neccessary to take other pictures into mind at the same time. Everyone has their own unique way of voting, and mine includes individuality and creativeness. I did say I scored some of the many Christmas ornaments higher, because i felt atleast they took some creativity into mind in their shots. |

I wasn't referring to anyone in particular in regards to their voting.
- If an image meets the challenge, to me, it gets a 5.0
- If an image is boring and one of 100 like it, and meets the challenge, it still gets a 5.0, with the creativity and technical aspects adding more to the score, bumping up a point or two.
- I first go through the whole challenge and sub-group all the shots into 3's (if any) 4's, 5's 6's & 7's
- On my second round of voting, I go back and look again and my highs and lows and often re-vote, bumping up the cream shots, commenting on the top and bottom ranks, and if time permits, go back and comment on the middle pack.
- If it's very poorly composed or exposed, out of focus and still meets the challenge, then it may be a 3.0 to 5.0
- Rarely does a shot warrant a 2.0 and almost never do I see 1.0 shots.
Just my 0.02¢

I understand your statement. You usually see a lot of the same pictures over and over. I tried to make mine stand apart and tell a story. Technically, I am not where I need to be, but I do actually give each challenge thought as to how I can meet it, and keep it interesting (except for the quick Christmas one, I just snapped a dreadful pic for that one) |
