A completely irelevant response follows :-) ;

I don' know how they do it but the big telescope system (Paranal)in Chile (8 meter lens) combines the signal from 4 telescopes at once giving them huge improvements over a single scope. Of course they had to build a city to support it so you might night be able to do it on the cheap. Mt. Paranal telescope system

Eureka! You've got it. Simply create a digital camera interferometer and you're done. Of course, that will only give you increased resolution, not a double-exposure but hey - you've got to start somewhere.

BSG is arguably the best show on television. And I hate television.

Sad eh? I find most of the characters and general drama of Battlestar Galactica (re-envisioned) so stereo typical. Though bringing on Apollo as the leader of the resistance was pretty cool. And I've actually grown to like the new Starbuck. Which is funny cause I thought that'd be what I least liked.

However, I get really pissed that they keep rubbing crap in the noses of the original fans. Yes, let's turn every past character into women. And no, we won't even do it in the name of diversity because even though it's 20+ yrs later we will have a TV show almost devoid of african americans.

Original Series:
Colonel Tigh (2nd in command was an African-American)
Boomer (One of the coolest supporting cast members, African-American)

Re-envisioned Series:
One African-female cast member relegated to near background actor status. No males.

Sure, they turned Starbuck into a female. Boomer into an asian woman (took the calm supportive Boomer and made her whiny). Now, Commander of the Pegasus is female. I don't have an issue with female leads. But do you deliberately have to change every single classic character into the opposite sex?

If diversity was the motivation, then please...give us something more than the typical 95% white + 4 ethnic characters.

I mean, when that 70's show (a.k.a. original BSG series) was more ethnically diverse than a show made nearly a 1/4 of a century later...what is up?

very interesting idea.

Also if you had, lets say 4 cameras stacked like so
12
34

and they all took a picture at the same time you could get a much larger image, assuming they can all be set up with just the right amount of overlap. Like some news stations do with multi monitors displaying portions of an image to make one large image.

Yeah, that higher resoultion thing might not be a bad thing. But the idea is takeing independant images from several source cameras and creating something out of the camera.

SAJ, booobooolaaaa, dude.

I hear your pain. My people have rarely been portrayed as an independant charactor, compared with other minority groups.

When you see my humans, my Lakota, portrayed, they usually are drunks, indian backstabbers, side kicks, or karate kick ass experts.

Do you see any natives on the crew of the Galactic?

Deal with it boobooola. At least you have representation through a strong charactor.

And the reason why women are more, and more getting strong roles in television is simple.

One day, some day, there will be the first women president of the USA. And the networks want to be ready.

I need a drink.

back to the question...

I think this would be possible, if you get your computer to take the picture and you are using two of the same cameras. Get a USB splitter to connect both cameras to the same USB port. On a Mac, fire up Image Capture (Applications folder), click Download Some... and click the Take Picture button. In my mind it should send the same signal to both cameras to take the shot and just send back data to the computer that it receives.

I have no idea how well it would combine the shots or if this would even work since I don't have two of the same cameras.

Or you could use a D200 and do it all in the camera. :)

I didn't read all the responses, so forgive me if my answer seems redundant.

What you are trying to do is an analyglyph. There are various ways to do it, and some freeware programs that can get you started.

For the image data, you need to take an image with the same settings from 2 points equidistant to a subject.

There are various methods of making the image 3 dimensional, but I admit, in my efforts, I failed. It never looked right, either in video or still form.

I tried this a long time ago as an effort to make a 3D logo for the tv station I used to work at, we wanted to try it out in print, video, and even web. Good idea, but either our inexperience, lack of proper tools software or hardware, or general need for a high quality product eventually led us to quit.

If you do come up with something, I would LOVE to see it. Learning something like this could be useful for future endeavors.
