Hmmm...I disagree. I like how it moves me along through the images, rather than having to go back and click into the next one. I can't stand constantly having to click things to get where I want to be.

The system as it is now works quite well and when something isn't broken it tends not to get fixed. |

Geez - I have no patience sitting in the audience waiting for this to get rolling. Needs a kick start.
How is that fair to cherry pick the photos you want to vote on??
That' is not necessarily my opinion - Don't take offense, mhphoto or Odyssey, this has been discussed a few times in the past and there's good arguments on either side I guess - which is why it ends up as Alienyst has said. But it's always good to hear the debate again with fresh opinions, so I'll sit down and observe.

knowing it'll only fuel the fire...
GET RID OF THE THUMBNAIL PAGE
that is all.
being able to select the photo you even want to *start* with is pretty pathetic, let alone picking and choosing what to vote for. |

Ok I'm in...so you want to just vote on the images that you think deserve a vote? Is that why you want to pick? It should be totally random as you should be voting on as many as possible. If we only vote on the ones we want to a couple things happen...
some will only vote for the ones they feel is worth their time and are actually good photograph, leaving everyone else they don't feel worth without any help to better themselves.
or
some will vote for only the people that they feel need help, then what happens to the good images? They don't get the votes they deserve and you get crap for a blue ribbon.
The system is awesome the way it is, if anything should change maybe you don't see ANY image thumbnails, they just come up random like when you are voting. (edit: ok Artyste you beat me too it lol)
You know if you don't feel like voting on an image then you can always click the little >> button.

I kinda' like thumbnail page, 'cause I often look at all the entries that way real quick, then start voting. But when I vote, I start at the beginning and go to the end, so it doesn't really matter which one I start with.
And Art, you're just a rabblerouser! Keep it comin'! :D

The poor guy only registered on the 13th, so give him a little break :-))
Michael, Do a search on this topic and you will find this has been debated (maybe not the right word) before and some people hate the thumbs and others love them.
Welcome and I suggest you run for the hills before it's too late :-)) |

Every person that votes sees the pictures in a different order, and that order is random. This helps to insure that the pictures get an equal (or at least close to equal) number of votes, helping to make the score a valid one. If we simply picked and chose the ones we want to vote for, that would, in effect, invalidate the results.
That said, I assume there are people "cherry picking," but at least the system doesn't make it easy.

OK...done with my popcorn (darn small box anyway!).
I like the thumbnail page. It comes in handy after voting when you want to go back and comment (although I would prefer that when you click on the comment icon it give you a textbox for comment entry right then instead of waiting for the image to load again).

That's a good point.. maybe they could code it so that the page will only come up when you've finished voting 100%.
Of course, that would mean people would *have* to vote 100%.. pete forbid ;)
Yes, I know that then people could go and pick and choose and *change* their votes.. but it'd stop the people that only vote on selected images

Glad to have you, Michael. Don't run for the hills. Stand your ground. Fight for what you believe in. It's like a DPC initiation thing - most of us have gone through it - and it's less painful and usually less humiliating than hazing. Good luck.

OK, I'll submit a scenario where such a system might be helpful, but in reality, I think what we got works fine.
...You go to vote the Say Cheese challenge fully expecting to see lots of pictures of that wonderful food. You find that at least 1/3rd of the pictures are of smiles, which you thought wasn't in the spirit of the challenge. While you aren't adamant enough to see those pics get the DNMC 1-3, you would certainly prefer to see a cheese photo win the blue. A solution would be to vote on all the cheese photos and leave the smile photos alone. It would take a lot of work to do that in the current system...
BTW, I did not vote Cheese. I do not think the smiles were DNMC. |

Perhaps, to expand a bit, it could be coded so that you don't see it until you have voted on the minimum 20% instead of 100%. After that at least your votes will count.
Scores always change at rollover. At least mine have never been what they were just before rollover. To me this indicates people have not voted on the required 20% and their votes are dumped. If you were allowed to pick and choose your votes I think there would be a much higer percentage of people who do not meet the 20% min. |

Have noticed this trend myself and I agree that "pick" voting would exagerate this situation.

The reason that it does that is so that people actually vote on all the pictures.
VOTING BASED ON A THUMBNAIL IS COMPLETELY UNFAIR.

Well I am a very objective person. I do not only vote for the photos I like but the one I do not like as well. I look at a photo first, then I question if it has stongly met the challenge or not. I am of the opinion that I should have the choice of voting on the images that most interest me, GOOD OR POOR! I do it anyway by just hitting the back button to get me to the thumb nail page! I still vote, so why does it matter on the images I vote on?
