I'm in a mid-sized city in Tennessee. I'm looking for some models for outdoor sittings. What should I expect the going rate to be (seems like I saw something between $35-100/hour a couple of years ago). I want to do some clothed and some nudes outdoors.
I did search for similar threads but found nothing under model, fee, pricing or remuneration.

You can usually get a decent model for about $50/hour through an agency but the nude work may make it higher, however if you have a modeling school nearby you may be able to get it for even less by finding someone who needs a portfolio and end up doing it as a trade off.
Also going rate when you use college students is $25 to $50, if you go through an art deptment you can get someone who is used to nude modeling. |

$ 50 / hour sounds decent.
However - REMEMBER TO GET A MODEL RELEASE FORM!

Ah!! I've never understood models/photographers. When do we cross the line and become good photographers, like one would hire if one were a model?
I read on photographytips.com a pro saying "Pay a model? Are you serious? They pay me." It's always stuck as the place I want to get is sought after, not seeking.

It is quite simple, really.
When I do photo shoots for someone else, (let's say a clothing chain), we hire models from a model agency.
When people come to me to have pictures taken, they would generally pay me.
I guess it is a case of whom has the interest in the pictures being taken... If you, the photographer, need a model, the model can walk away with the money. If the model needs a photographer, the photographer walks away with the money.
Supply and demand.

Model releases
Btw, I have an automated model release creator on my website:
Model Release Generator, which will automatically include or skip clauses that are / are not important.
I originally wrote it for myself, but if you have clauses that need adding, I can always sort you out. Just mail me or something

That is just it, what are you asking your model to do? If it normal everyday fashion work chances are you won't be paying the model but if you are wanting a nude model then usually you are going to be paying for it. Also for nude models you will find out often there is going to be a requested clause in the contract stating what the photos will be used for. That often is to protect the model so that they don't become porn.
All of us say we won't do porn we want to do nude art but the truth is when the dollars are put in front of you what will you do with the nude work? Its a very hard decision when the money is in front of you as to what you do. Believe me no matter what route you go at that point you will always wonder what if. I've been there not as a photographer but as a model, I had to chose between art and the fetish world and right now I'm not sure I made the right choice. |
