I am trying to get PS on my laptop up to the same set of actions as on my desktop. I can find the actions I've downloaded and dragged to the action tool palette, but I can't find any actions I've created from within PS.
Where does it store those (recorded actions)?
Thanks in advance.

did you save them first? it doesn't store changes or the actions automatically - you have to save it first - specify the location anywhere you want.

No, it never asks you to save them. Just name them. They are always there now in my action palette, so they are saved somewhere.
I looked for a save option after reading your note, but Adobe has done a fantastic job of making this completely opaque to any user. There's no right click menu on the actions, and there's no "Save" visible in the palette or the file menu.
Any clues on how to export or save these then. They are clearly saved session to session, but theirs no corresponding file I can find in my system, at least with an .atn extension.
I have Windows XP, PS CS.

They should be in the same place as the ones that come with PS (I could be wrong though)
PS\presets\actions or something like that. |

They are open - not saved. Trust me on this one. If they are saved, it's in a database file somewhere.
It never does ask you to save - but if you don't and something happens to that PS or that computer, they are gone. They do not save or update automatically and if you lose them and reload, it only loads your recent save, not your recent 'session to session' actions.
That circled arrow - click that and you'll find save actions.

Ok, thanks--I missed that little menu widget.

Also, it is best to save user actions to a separate folder and then just load them into your Actions palette via the load option. Reason: if you ever upgrade and your actions are mixed in with PS actions, you could lose yours.
;-) Just remember what you named it and where you put it. |

Yes, I agree, that's good advice. I've kept all my downloaded actions in my own folder, but didn't realize till today it doesn't save the recorded actions as an ATN file until you manually tell it to!

I lost a bunch of actions - and updates to my actions - that's how i found out. I posted a bunch of our actions on here before and so I just redownloaded my own! lol

Neil,
Photoshop saves your actions in a file called
Action Palette.psp

Photoshop actions are saved under
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop 7.0\Presets\Photoshop Actions\
change Photosho 7.0 to whichever version you are using. |

User created actions are not saved in this folder unless you manually save them. I do believe the .psp file above is the type of database thing I was trying to explain poorly before. :)

Great tip. So rather than copying the ATN files and setting my palette to be the same as my desktop, I can just copy the PSP file over!
