Are people voting on the pun, or the picture - obviously on both, but I wonder where voters are putting the emphasis on scoring? I've had to fight the urge to vote on the funnier pun and really concentrate on the execution of the picture (after all, this is a photography challenge). Anyone else going through dilemma? How are you approaching it?

Yes, I think mine is suffering this. I'm quite frustrated actually. Mine IS a pun, not a literalism, not a shoehorned photo, but an appropriate play on words. It's technically sound, and it's actually an attractive photo with worth outside of the challenge umbrella (which to me is important). But compared to some it's not funny I guess, not roflmao funny. And it doesn't involve a naked ass either.

It's beyond me that most think it's deserving of below a five. :( My boyfriend and I agree that people must be voting on what makes them laugh hardest, not what is the best photograph meeting the theme. That's why I don't usually enter these topics, they don't seem to be about photography as much as gimmick and shock-appeal. I think the photography should always come first on this site. No comments though, so I don't know for sure what it is they really don't like.

Turning off my scores for the week and moving on.

Not doing so hot - oh well. Now I remember why I had not entered since October.

It's pretty easy for me. I look at the photo, then the pun, and then see how it relates. Then I look at technicals, as much as I know of them. But I always start with how it meets challenge first, even if some say it shouldn't be scored that way. It is a photography site, but these are also themed challenges, and not for open entries. If I feel it meets challenge, it gets a 5. In this one, if I see it not only meets photo verses pun and well, then it goes up, and then technically, maybe another point or so. Depends also on appeal to me personally, which differs with each challenge. But it has always been easy for me to vote, and usually when I look back, I don't do a whole lot of vote changing and am pretty happy with my choices for wins and losses. There was only one challenge that I found very difficult to vote on, but I forgot which one that was now. But for the most part, I find it very easy.

Just curious, how do you think this one would have done in the Puns challenge?

Candle's Messiah

Being a pun challenge, the first thing that hits me is your title and the fact that they are not candles, but lights. The angle is a bit hard and the fuzzy stuff around the lights I find distracting.

NOT CANDLES???

OMG...did you guys think they were lights?

Those are ALL candles. I sat there jumping over flames to re-light candles the wind blew out. I felt like Jack-Be-Nimble. I used nearly a whole box of votif candles...

???

Dang, I was close to 7 after 30 some votes, but have drifted lower since... and no favorites.

Thanks Bren. Today could be Labor Day. I am finally starting to come to terms with it - most of the time been feeling weird or not feeling like I should or like I did before - but that was 13 years ago - I am no good at remembering emotional details. Technical details, yes, but not emotional.

I'll post an update when I have news. Gotta go now - wish me luck! ...with the baby also, not just the Puns challenge. ;-)

Hey Ken, I am sorry to hear you are stuggling emotionally with this. However, it is one of the most emotional and life changing events we deal with in our lives. I'll be sending positive thoughts your way and hope all goes well. Please do keep us updated.

Mines staying pretty much around 6.2 now. I have to say I did a darn good job with mine by my comments. I'll have to explain why I'm saying this after it's over otherwise I might give mine away. I'm loving my comments and not because their saying how good it is either. :)
