Let me clear my name here...I would not do this..I was just thinking if sombody else did it...I'm happy with the challenge!

Umm, is this where we make a gratuitous pitch to have our username immortalized in imagery by a fellow photographer? ;)

Hmmm, great idea. Might as well make it easy for those that find it so difficult to click a few buttons when they don't see a name they know. LOL...BUT, can it be done?

Yes, that would be TooCool!!

I'm almost certain nobody could make sense of my username. Hell I don't even know what it means.

Muses

by Micha F. Lindemans

The Greek goddesses who presided over the arts and sciences. They were believed to inspire all artists, especially poets, philosophers, and musicians. The Muses were the daughters of Zeus and Mnemosyne, the goddess of memory. The number of Muses varies over time; initially there was but one, and later there is mention of three: Melete, Mneme, and Aoede. They were nymphs in Pieria, western Thrace, and their cult was brought to Helicon in Boeotia by the Aloadae. Usually there is mention of nine muses: Calliope., Clio, Erato, Euterpe, Melpomene, Polyhymnia, Terpsichore, Thalia, and Urania.

The Muses were venerated throughout Greece, but more so in those areas with many wells and springs. The area of Boeotia, near Helicon, remained the favorite place of the Muses, and there they were more venerated than elsewhere. It is also the place of two well that were sacred to them, Aganippe and Hippocrene. Also Delphi and the Parnassus were their favorite places, and it was here that Apollo became their leader (musagetes).

The Muses sat near the throne of Zeus, king of the gods, and sang of his greatness and of the origin of the world and its inhabitants and the glorious deeds of the great heroes. From their name words such as music, museum, mosaic are derived.

Here ya go, short version: Calliope is the eldest and most distinguished of the nine Muses and initially identified with philosophy. "Calliope" means "beautiful voice". Her emblems are a stylus and wax tablets, and sometimes a roll of paper or a book.

And isn't Kel one of those guys on a stupid Nickelodeon show?

oh crap. there are two ways to take this challenge - Rose actually saw the other way. "take a photo that represents the username" Well does a weird, well worked on, talented photo mean "a scalvert" or should we take photos of a rose for rose? Those are two VERY different definitions and only one is going to make dnmc voters happy!

Well, her REAL name is "Kelly", so it makes perfect sense to me; CalliopeKel, the philosophical muse :-)

I'd be stunned if more than a handful saw it the first way. I think this will be seen as more of an extension of "visual puns". I could be wrong; wouldn't be the first time :-)

If anyone wants a challenge, I think mine would be a tough one to represent. I'd love to see what a creative mind could come up with.

But where would you find 8,699 roses this time of year!

You only need one -- as listed, that number is an ordinal. Just don't use rose #8700 or you've gone too far ...

Awww, gee, GeneralE, now you made me go look up "ordinal"
but since the definition made my eyes glaze over (now there's a pun waiting to happen) I'll take your word for it.

It's easy -- an ordinal number is one which indicates something's "order" in a sequence, like being "second in line."

Oh, okay. I can understand plain English. Thanks.

The 8699 after my name represents the month, day, and year of my son's birth. Nothing more. If you would use mine, you could just use a rose. On the other hand, some on here think I am a beast, a savage, a bad cookie/apple, etc etc among other more amusing adjectives. Therefore, depending on how "you" feel my name should be represented would be what you should submit. Be it literal for my name (discounting any numbers, as I will be for any name I choose), or as a beast, for example...LOL..because that is what you think of me on DPC and how you think it best represents my personality.

Someone stated below that I saw this one way and there are two meanings? I am not quite understanding that.

For Scalvert, to use an example, I think it would be more related to a representation in how one feels. Scalvert wins a lot of ribbons, so it may be an entry where there are a bunch of ribbons in it, as "Scalvert" itself has no actual literal meaning other than a shortening for Shannon Calvert. A more literal example would be my own, where Rose would be taken literal, and has more than one meaning than just an actual name. However, you could put a spin on it and have it represent more of my personality than have it represent the flower.

I really don't think it matters. Most should "get it" either way. Some will be literal and pretty in whom they choose, and some will be funny and a play on words. To me it only makes it more interesting.

Rose
