Anyobyd here at all musical? I'm a guitarist and songwriter as a hobby... and I moderate over at one of the biggest guitar tab websites on the net.
I only physically play guitar but I write music for all instruments on midi programs and such.
Anyone else? |

Well, I play guitar for fun. I was in a small band in college and another one a couple of years ago. I don't write music though. I haven't really tried, but someday. I was just recently looking into taking lessons. I have never taken any, but I think it would help me get to that next level.
Which guitar tab site are you envolved with?
*edit*
I guess I'll list my equipment too.
Electric guitar:
MusicMan Axis Super Sport w/ MM90 pickups.
Acoustic Guitar:
Yamaki (6-string) (not sure of the model #, it's really old)
Washburn (12-string)
Amp:
Fender Super Reverb w/ 4 - 10's.

I started guitar when I was 11 or 12 but didn't really appreciate music at the time, so all I would do is learn other songs. I was in a band from 14-16 but got kicked out because I developed a computer/AOL addiction and never made an effort to get a ride to practice. We played a bunch of shows at a few of the big (smaller) places in Richmond, VA (Twisters, Flood Zone) if you're familiar.
I started to play piano a few years ago and bought a digital piano (Roland HP-2). I was inspired by video game music, honestly (this and this mostly). I took lessons immediately and stopped in March of this year because I didn't feel like I could learn much anymore, it was just a matter of practicing. Unfortunately a weekly lesson is exactly the motivation I need to practice every day, so now I only play a few times a week, but still love it. |

I've been playing the Git-box since I was 13. I play Blues, Blues Rock, Ragtime, a dash of jazz...tons of Beatles, Hendrix, Stones, 60's-70's Funk etc. I also like Newgrass so I took up the madolin and banjo.
Martin D16A
Gibson ES-335
Fender Stratocaster
Gibson LG-2
Luis Goya-Flamenco
Fender Blues Junior amp
...and a bunch more stuff (I'm a bit of a gear hound)

Music, like reading, like programming have been with most of my life. I played in a rock band way back then. I tend to pay more attention to mastering the medium and have spent countless hours perfecting techniques. I am lucky I have some Juliard musicians I still play with.
I am a quick learner. I play piano, guitar (both classical and popular), flute, clarinet, saxophone and I am exceptionally good at the mandolin, even though I care not for it. Of course, I had to explore the drums and what an experience.
You can almost say I have invested more of my life in music than any other field, except programming in C and C++ but, I do not like the road nor the life. I do it merely for pleasure.
The passions returns in cycles and then it only takes me about three months to get up to speed with any of the above instruments. I like classical, rock, blues and jazz music. |

Bass, Guitar and some keyboards. Mostly, I play bass and it's the favorite of the instruments I play. I'd like to learn sax though.
I've played in bands here and there for years, mostly fill-ins where a temporary bassist was needed. But, a few friends and I get together weekly to just have jam sessions and drink beer, then we play an occasional party.
One of my many, many hobbies ... lol

LOL, C and C++ I love, man I don't even want to think how much time I have vested programming. I just don't have the time I once did to make so fun apps. Sadly my BS in computer science just never got put to good use. Worked in the programming field for a few months (actually at the company that invented Paintshop Pro, JASC) I just don't get along well with cubicle life. Most the stuff I program now seems to be for my own self for my shop management, with data access to SQL. Not really as fun as if I had alot of free time... |

| I'm a violin performance major and i'm graduating this spring. I'll be taking a year off from school, but continuing to study with my current teacher (if my funds allow it). Then i'm going to go for a M.M. probably in performance. I also somewhat play bass but i don't really think of myself as a bassist. |

Choral conductor and singer from ages 16 to 38.
I'd shifted away from music due to my responsabilities at work, buy it looks like I'll be returning to it sometime in the near future.

I've been playing guitar since I was fourteen. Acquired three guitars: a strat, and SG and a yamaha semi. Dont feel like i have really progessed much since I learn all of metallicas' "black album" when I was sixteen!
Once, a couple of my mates and i were going to start a death-metal band called "colostomy explosion"... |

I played the violin for 8 years, then switched to choral singing, then got a BA in voice performance, and now am getting MM in choral conducting. So yes, I'm a bit musical :)

I actually sing. Sang in church first for about 5 years, and then was in a couple of local bands. I sang a song for my daughters wedding that also ended up being played on the radio here locally as a "local artist segment". I long to go back into the studio. My brother has one, and I record in there.
This same brother along with my other younger brother have a radio station of their own, and they also promote other artists. One recent sign on was Nikki Mckibbons (spelling?) from the first American Idol show. He will be promoting her new CD, but presently she is in Australia from what I hear.
Music runs in my family. My uncle on my mom's side was one of the four seasons for "Franky Valli and the Four seasons" (I never did spell his name right, and probably never will spell "Vallie, Valli, Valley right..LOL). This uncle was also the top guitarist in the country in the 70's, and played for very well known artists. Actually, on tour he met Michael Jackson once. He was just a young boy, but he was more astounded and excited at meeting my uncle then my uncle was him. LOL...
I remember being at a dinner with this uncle as a young girl, and him saying he had to cut the dinner short of his presence cause he had a meeting with Bob Hope in Newport, RI. WHY Bob Hope? I have no idea, but these were the people he hung out with. One time Tom Jones was in town and was supposed to stay at our house, incognito. LOL....But Tom's tour plans were changed and it never happened. But I think my mom, one of Tom's biggest fans, would have fainted anyway. *smile*
My other uncle was the Simon Cowell of his day, now retired. He met and promoted stars such as Elton John, Cher, Kenny Rogers, and the list goes on and on. He also had lunch on occasion with the Jackson's. He played basketball with them once when there was an overnight delay of a meeting to promote one of their singles. He is an author as well. He wrote a book about how to produce at a radio station. Wasn't a TOP seller..LOL..but he did well with it.
In any case, a very musical family I have, and it is great during parties to hear the stories and have jam sessions.
Rose

I play guitar but not as much as I used to. I used to write my own songs and years ago did a couple of demos, one of which got a little airplay on local radio. Never did release anything though.

My musical talent (or lack thereof) goes way back to my Catholic Kindergarten days where I played the triangle. :(
Note: I blame my lack of talent with that thing on the fact that my hands were always so sore from the ruler whacks. |

Ultimate Guitar
The MPA has suddenly lashed out against tab sites for copyright infringement and they've all closed down, apart from Ultimate GUitar because it is the only one with a license.
I'm suprised how many guitarists there are here with some awesome equipment.
