What program do you use to organize and view your photos? I'm currently using iPhoto, but I dont like how it organizes my pictures. What are my alternatives?
Thanks

Photoshop, Capture one or the Canon software.

iView is by far the best for Mac and/or Windoze in my opinion
BUt Apple has come out with Aperture. Haven't gotten a look at it yet...may be an all ino one option.

Photoshop CS
Don't like iPhoto...
Aperture is still a beta product IMHO...Maybe when version 2.0 comes out... |

I was told at the Apple store that I didn't have enough juice to run Aperture, as it's insanely memory hungry. I only have 512 in my ibook...bummer. Looked very nice too. |

I simply load them on the harddrive arranged in alphabetical hierarchal folders that I create. Quite simple. I can find anything, anytime in seconds without software. This method I carried over from my PC days. My film and slides are arranged in the exact same manner in file cabinets (also without software)
I find this to be a plus when working on other systems or transfering files to other harddrives.. No software comatability problems. |

Me too, but I deal with anywhere from 300-2500 images at a time so I will view them in Adobe Bridge on occasion. For my personal pix, I do the same thing. I burn CDs of EVERYTHING and can still find what I need fast.

Me too -- actually, they ARE on a PC networked to my Mac -- which is two OS's too old to run any of the software mentioned in this thread.
Maybe we should start a survey to see who's running the oldest hardware/OS/editing software. |

I have a x286 PC running DOS, but it's not for image editing. I have it running a simple test fixture, it's more than adequate for that.

I use Extensis Portfolio . I've tried iPhoto but is just too slow when you get any real number of images in it, plus EP is powerful with everything that iPhoto has (except the cheesy editing feature). It also has amazing search features like say you wanted to find every image shot @ f5.6, etc.
I tried iView but EP was more to my liking. EP integrates well with your editor just drag the thumbnail to the editor's icon (I use PS CS) in the dock to open the image to edit.
IMO, Portfolio is the best DAM (digital asset manager) around and one of the best photographic purchases I̢۪ve made in years.

Photo Mechanic for viewing.
Or just preview, works fine for me, select the folder and see the thumbs at the side and scroll through them. |

update:
I just moved out of iPhoto! I was tired of iPhoto making random copies of photos and putting them in the Originals folder, wasting space on my HD. The random corruption of photos was annoying too
My new workflow:
Upload pictures into folders in my Finder, instead of a program.
Use a program called Slides! to view and edit (just deleting) photos in full screen. Great program. Very fast.
Backup on to cd.
Edit in PS.

iView is the best that I have found!
It has a lot of great features.
1. Creatate slide shows.
2. Creatate QuickTime movie from your slide show
3. Make HTML photo galleries with different templates to choose from.

Another survey:
for Powerbook owners, what color profile is your display set at?
I have my display profile set at Color LCD. When I save an image from the web, and open it in Photoshop, the color looks different, even when I try converting the color profile to Adobe RGB and sRBG. However, the color matches the color of the image in my web browser when I change it to Color LCD. Should I change my display profile to Adobe RBG or sRBG instead of Color LCD? |

They don't go bad every couple of years like some other designs ... the one I'm using now is almost 10 years old. |

Buy a Spyder and create a custom profile. Just some advice.
