Someone emailed me the formula to find out what kind of score you got from the last voter in line, etc. But the file sent was in one I couldn't open.

Is there a more simplified mathematical equation that can just be posted or sent to me via private in which doesn't need its own file to figure out?

I have been watching for the first time, a challenge scoring going on with one of my entries, and I find it interesting. I would like to figure out how to do this formula so it can be even more interesting.

Thanks!

Take note of the current average and number of votes. Multiply these numbers. Save the result.

When the next vote comes in the number of votes and average will change. Do the same with these numbers.

Subtract the previous result.

This equals the vote just received.

then the number of votes won't have changed so you will just find out by how much a vote has been changed, up or down.

...there was a vote change and a new vote before you updated, then you can't figure out...
You can always guess the score, but its not guaranteed to be correct

Ok, thank you. I will try to see if my less-then-mathematical mind can comprehend how to do this now. LOL....

Thank you for all the replies!

The formula is not perfect.

Do you really need to know the last vote ?

Oh, well, let me get something straight. Are you talking about the whole average? Like let's say 4.9876, or you just meaning to take the 4.9 or just the 4?

I did it with one I had written down, and the formula resulted in voter 50 being higher than voter 51, so the top number of the equation was higher then the bottom. Do I invert them to subtract? If this is confusing, then how about giving me an actual example-for-dummies in here?

I think you missed something.

Let's take my dismal candlelighting score as an example:

Votes: 150
Views: 229
Avg Vote: 4.8333

votes x avg vote = 150 x 4.8333 = 724.995

Just for discussion let's say the avg goes to 4.8212 with 151 votes

votes x avg vote = 151 x 4.8212 = 727.995

727.995 - 724.995 = 3 latest vote was 3

Vote 151 was a 3.

Last vote = (n+1)votes * present score - n votes * previous score

e.g
Vote Score
9 5.0
10 4.9

Last vote = 10 * 4.9 - 9 * 5.0 = 4

OH, ok. Yeah, that is what I did, and it seemed to come out right. Don't think I missed anything. I think I just got a bit mixed up when the last vote was higher than the former, and didn't know about subtracting a high from a low verses a low from a high. LOL...

Thanks for the example!

Does anyone know the formula for figuring out who voted 1's and 2's and also where they live? I'm no good at math, so any help with this is appreciated. ;-)

You take the last 3 digits of the new score, multiply them by the last 2 digits of the previous score, and that gives you the zip code. We haven't figured out the street-address correlatives yet, but at least you can nuke an entire neigborhood and be pretty sure of eliminating the perpetrator of the low score.
