In the recent Fork, Knives, Spoon challenge I mentioned how my entry had been beat down a bit but how my changes (as a result of feedback from this site) actually led to a photo sale.

Here is the original image

An attempt at a "grunge" effect that seems so popular here that I have never tried (that is pretty obvious). Anybody who thinks that you can simply push the "grunge" action button and get good results is sadly mistaken.

This is my "rework" using my traditional magazine/advertising take with suggestions from DP Challenge people.

My edits are not legal here as I used splices from several different photos from the same session....a tactic we use all the time in our advertising photo and graphic design at the shop.

You know the drill...you like elements from different shots and lighting angles, you build layers and then go to work :-D

The biggest changes.
...Took all the grunge out
...Changed the shadow depth and direction (used the photos that used a softbox to the models right with a reflector held in the models lap to soften shadow transition instead of uplighting (monster lighting)
...Brought fullness to her lips..(when the model clamped down on the spoon it caused her lips to tighten and thin up..I use some shots we took without the spoon and spliced those with the spoon to bring fullness back)
...Kept a soft and shallow depth of focus..common for fashion
...Kept the highlight on the lips which many DP Challenge people liked
...Overall softened the shadow transitions and brought a peaches and cream look to her skin versus the heavy bronze tan..made her look more feminine.

Some other slight photoshopping and selective sharpening.

This exercise just shows that a good idea that may have been screwed up in processing can still be saved if you save your originals, have some good exposures and give yourself some latitude for multiple editing choices.

Hope someone gets something from this..I know I did and thank you to everyone who made comments :-D
