HELP!! I have my son singing and playing the piano on an avi file. I want to attach it and send to my sister. I can't seem to get it to work. I have winzip, but if I drag it to the desktop icon it says the file isn't valid. I can't send it regularly, as it's too large of a file.
Any suggestions????

| Right click on the file and there should be an option like "zip to..." |

Perhaps the best thing is to encode it to MPEG instead. That would be much smaller than AVI, especially if the AVI is direct from a digital recorder.
One way to do this, if you don't already have software (but you do if you have Nero 6 or 7), would be to download either freeware to do this or a functional demo of software.
The easiest user interface for this would be to download the 30 day trial of Nero 7 or Pinnacle Studio. Both would do the trick. Pinnacle might be easier to use, but it's a brand new version, and their releases tend to be buggy until the first 4 patches or so come out.
If you have Roxio Easy CD creator suite, you might also already have encoding software.
One freeware solution is available at www.tmpgenc.net. I think they give you a trial of the MPEG2 decoder, but the software and some other decoders are free. It's a handy encoder/decoder to have too.
These are all for the PC. If you have a recent apple system it probably has a encoder in the iLife bundle.
Oh: another possibility, is DIVX. It's another format, supposed to be "better" than MPEG in compactness and quality. DIVX Creator

WinZip is not the best choice for compression. It is not very good at compressing media files, and only works well on text files and sometimes MS Office documents.
Use WinRAR instead. It will break up the files into smaller files, and you can send them seperately. The main file is an executable, which will automatically put all the pieces together.
Take care. |

| Crap - now I can't find it. Does it change the file name automatically? Ok, I'm crazy now. |
