While I was hoping my score would have been better, I can't complain about being in 42nd place. I was just wondering what folks think about these outtakes. BTW, this was my very first try at painting with light.

My Entry

BTW for those who were wondering what the "smoke" was, it just a little LED flashlight wrapped in saran wrap to diffuse the light. After painting the fork, I left the shutter open for 10 seconds then approximated where the tip of the fork was, lowered the saran wrapped LED light, turned it on, a few motion strokes to simulate my best smoke appearance then turned off the light. this was done in a span of less than a second. The smoke was the result. My goal was to have people comment and ask about the smoke. How was it done and was it legitimate. Most thought they were scratches. Hey, it was an experiment again right?

Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys :)

I assume this was the inspiration for the 2nd outtake?

Falls a little short I think--needs more light, less noise, closer crop, IMO.

1st outtake has interesting reflections in the fork, but the light on the background takes away from this I think. Would be neat if you could get the fork with reflections only. I guess you'd have to suspend the fork some distance from the background or something to acheive that. Or could be cloned out I guess.

I think you chose the right one, it is technically superior to the other two, and more interesting. My first reaction was what the hell is the smoke about, so since that was your goal, count that as a success.

I like the composition of the shot you entered the best, but I like the "smoke" on the 2nd outtake best. The light is really bright and beautiful in that photo :-)

He, he, he, nice shots! I like the light curve in the second outtake. I've been looking at your fork, and my first reaction was that you should have used a plain fork, not one with stripes on the handle. But the more I look at it, the more I like the stripes, especially in the pictures you entered to the challenge. I would have never thought of using a striped fork. Very interesting.
