I'm ordering for our daughter Christmas pictures to send out. I think it's a bit soft, but my husband really likes it and likes that effect on this particular photo. I'll be ordering on Thursday. Is there anything more I should do for editing?

It does come across as very soft. I'm okay with that when there is a sharp point of focus on a shot. You may want to sharpen up the eyes and lashes to provide that focus.
The shot is precious and I can see why you both love it.

I have psp8. How do I sharpen just the eyes and lashes lol? I have no idea how to do that stuff. I adjusted the lighting and coloring a bit. But that's about all I REALLY know how to do. |

The softness doesn't bother me however if you can do anything maybe try and reduce the light on the right side of her face. To me it seems a little hot. |

Its an adoreable picture of her but i have to agree with rjksteschm you need to sharpen her eyes and eyelashes. The photo as it is looks a tad out of focus. MAybe you can post the original somewhere and let some of the wonderful portrait people on DPC help you with it :)

I don't know psp8 - I have Elements. There is a tool on elements that looks like a triangle that allows me to sharpen an area just like I can clone an area. Try looking under the Help menu for a "Sharpen Too." Then make sure you pick a small brush (smaller than the eye) and a low level of opacity so that you can control what you're doing. If you can do it on a duplicate layer, that's even better. Good luck.

okay I have something like that. Just found it. I learn more about psp every day lol.
Thank you for the input! I really appreciate it. I wouldn't be so picky if it were just for us, but these are going out to 40 other people lol and I want them to look good!~ |

I also have PSP 8 and gave it a shot. I'm sure others here can do a much better job than me. Good practice at the very least for me.

OH thank you for your go at it Mr Ed. That looks a lot clearer than what I'm doing with it lol.
What exactly did you do? I need a psp book for dummies. I don't have much time to mess with it because of the young lady pictured haha. So I'm just kind of learning as I go.

no, that's the size the website makes it. the fullsize original is 3264x2448. I would have to email it since I'm only a registered member here. So does someone want me to email them? lol |

It seems a little oof to me. I would suggest re-taking the photo so the original is sharper then introducing softness in post processing. You can get the desired effect on the eyes that way.

It's a great expression and exposure, but honestly, it doesn't seem soft in an intentional way, it looks like it's out-of-focus and there seems to be a bit of camera/subject movement as well.
If it makes you happy, then by all means go ahead.

Well I did have a little movement. I don't have a tripod and the best angle I could get was propping myself up on the back of a chair lol.
I'll send you a copy to Mr. Ed. cpanaioti you have mail too. |

WAHHHHHHHHHHH, me 2 neither.
P.S. You asked what I did. If you don't know how, find the tutorial on using the selection tool. Zoom in on the eyes, use the tool and then sharpen, blur, color, b/w....anything you like. Keep reading this forum, you'll learn. I know MUCH more now than when I first joined, which is what I wanted when I joined.

lol di! Yes, although I'll have to wait until AFTER christmas to get it. I actually saw one in our trading post for 40. It extends to 56 inches or something like that and is all aluminum. Doesn't say what kind it is or anything and I didn't call. Hubby told me he'd take care of a tripod and new camera bag- I'm using his while his is stored in the box mine came in lol.
Mr.Ed check again, i just hit send
