I've been shooting alot outside latly and am having trouble viewing images on the LCD. I was watching a video on Sports Shooter and noticed that alot of photographers have some kind of plastic thing on their screen. My question is does this reduce glare and make it easier to view images on the LCD? And if it does reduce glare, WHAT IS IT CALLED??? If i am totally wrong, what is it?? |

Are you refering to the monitor hood? It will help with glare a little but more than anything it's to help prevent the outside light from affecting the way the color looks on the screen. They make them for CRT monitors too actually.
Edit:
You can buy one for around $25 or make your own out of a cardboard box for free (as long as you don't mind looking nerdy)
Re Edit: D'Oh! I was thinking for your computer. Might want to rethink the cardboard box idea.

Here is what I use on my 20D, it works pretty good except in extreme sunlight.

That's the name. I couldn't think of it for nothing.
Buy somewhere like B&H though. You can get cheaper than what Hoodman sells it for on their website.

I don't think those are for reducing glare. they are for protection against scratches and stuff.

My nikon d70 came with a clear plastic LCD cover (it's pretty thick) just helps with scratches though, I don't think it does much for glare.
I only use it 'cause it came with the camera. |

Just bought a pop up shade made by eFilm (Delkin products) from Fry's electronics. Very surprise they had one for the *ist DS but they called it an Optio *ist DS.
Very nice to keep glare away and makes it easy to view, but if you like chimping it may be a nuisance.
