OK, I know I should be out taking pictures or something, but I'm inside messing around. I dusted off the DVD of 2001 and watched it last night, and was inspired to do some space art. Using Starry Night Pro. I located myself in Jupiter space and tried to replicate the view of Jupiter with some of her larger moons visible in matching phase:

And then thought, what the heck, let's put the Discovery out there too. Found a nice piece of 2001 art at the Celestia web site and "borrowed" it:

It's snowing and miserable outside, gimme a break. :-)

It's pretty good if ya ask me... but perhaps (just to be devil's advocate) Discovery needs some shadowing to match the planet ... he he he ... hope that helps your boredom :-)

Look again! The ship images were illuminated. Since I couldn't change the light angle in the existing images (well, at least not quickly), I placed the ship to carefully match the angle of illumination on the planet. At least I thought I did pretty well??

The shadow line on the front rounded portion of Discovery needs to be further forward, cutting through about where the rightmost window is. The antenna tower amidships needs a longer shadow at a matching angle, and there's a small projection all the way aft which I think also needs a shadow.

Also, since Discovery is not within an atmosphere, it's shadows need to be sharp-edged and without any gradation or feathering, even though those features are appropriate for Jupiter itself.

Yeah, there's that. And that, and... yeah, it ain't perfect.

Here's a quick attempt at DPC/2001 humor:

Does that thing see the entire internet? We might need it shortly.
