Okay, I live in Wales, and it's winter. What can I photograph in this poor lighting?

I've read that putting some loo roll in front of my flash will make it a little less harsh but I was wondering what else I could photograph or what other tips people have for these gloomy days.

You could, perhaps, try building a light tent and while away a few hours photographing objects from around the house.
